Anton Kalvaa
Anton Kalvaa (1857–1922) was a Norwegian trade unionist and politician for the Labour Party. He joined the Labour Party in 1895. He served as a board member of the Norwegian Union of General Workers from 1902 to 1913, and was then hired as the Labour Party's secretary in Trondhjem. The leading figure of an oppositional wing within the party, Martin Tranmæl Martin Olsen Tranmæl (27 June 1879 – 11 July 1967) was a Norwegian socialist leader from The Norwegian Labour Party. Norwegian Union Of General Workers
The Norwegian Union of General Workers (, NAF) is a trade union in Norway. It has a membership of 33,000 and is affiliated with the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (LO). The union was founded on 13 April 1895, by 12 transport workers, as the Norwegian Road and Railway Union. However, the union decided to accept all unskilled workers, and in 1900 became the NAF. The union was an early affiliate of the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions, and was initially its largest member, with 25,000 members by 1907. However, the federation wished to establish industrial unions, and so numerous industry groups were split out of the NAF as independent unions. (''The Laborers' Encyclopedia'') is a Norwegian language, Norwegian encyclopedia published in six volumes in the 1930s. It was the first reference book in Norwegian language, Norwegian to have a pronounced class bias, and the first encyclopedia outside of the Soviet Union to be directed specifically at the working class. The publication had a connection with the Norwegian labor movement's goal to spread knowledge among the working and Underclass, lower class, and in doing so could break the monopoly the middle class had on the dissemination of information in society. They thought that the existing encyclopedias had a middle class bias. The idea of such an encyclopedia came within the group that produced the laborers' magazine ''Arbeidermagasinet''. Martin Tranmæl
Martin Olsen Tranmæl (27 June 1879 – 11 July 1967) was a Norwegian socialist leader from The Norwegian Labour Party. Biography Martin Tranmæl grew up on a middle-sized farm in Melhus Municipality, in Søndre Trondhjem county, Norway. He started working as a painter and construction worker. In the early 20th century, Tranmæl lived for a while in the United States where he came into contact with the American workers movement, and even though he joined the AFL, he was also present at the founding congress of the Industrial Workers of the World, whose revolutionary syndicalist ideology he continued to be influenced by after returning to Norway. Upon his return, he eventually joined Norwegian Labour Party where he soon became one of the main leaders of the Party's left wing and worked for many different socialist papers.
