Boston is an American rock band formed in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1975 by Tom Scholz. The band's core members include multi-instrumentalist, founder and leader Scholz, who played the majority of instruments on the band's 1976 self-titled debut album, and original lead vocalist Brad Delp, among a number of other musicians who varied from album to album. Boston experienced significant commercial success during the 1970s and 1980s. Barry Goudreau
Barry Goudreau (born November 29, 1951) is an American musician. He was one of two original guitarists for the Rock music, rock band Boston (band), Boston alongside founder Tom Scholz; both Scholz and Goudreau shared lead and rhythm guitar parts. Before Boston Goudreau had developed a musical interest at an early age and got his first guitar, an Steel-string acoustic guitar, acoustic which he borrowed from a friend, at age 11. He began taking lessons and by age 13, joined his first band, the "Tornadoes". At age 15, he joined another band with future Boston bandmate drummer Sib Hashian. They would often play at nightclubs, sometimes seven times a week. Later, he met up with Brad Delp and Fran Sheehan, both future members of Boston. Ernie And The Automatics
Ernie and the Automatics were an American blues rock band based in Boston. Guitarist Barry Goudreau and drummer Sib Hashian are both former members of Boston. Brian Maes (keyboards and lead vocals) and Tim Archibald (bass) are both former members of RTZ and are alumni of the Berklee College of Music. On saxophone is Michael "Tunes" Antunes, a member of John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band who appeared in the movie '' Eddie and the Cruisers''. Ernie Boch Jr. (guitar) is a graduate of Berklee. "Rock & Roll Band" is a song by American Rock music, rock band Boston (band), Boston written by main songwriter and guitarist Tom Scholz and helped out by lead vocalist Brad Delp. The song appears on the band's 1976 Boston (album), self-titled debut. It is one of many songs Scholz worked on in his basement in 1974 and 1975 before Boston got its record contract, five of which eventually appeared on the ''Boston'' album. The "Rock and Roll Band" demo was finished in 1974, along with three of the six. However, Scholz had begun writing the song years earlier, in the early 1970s. The drum parts of this and other early Boston songs were developed by Jim Masdea, but this is the only song on the ''Boston'' album on which Masdea plays drums. Foreplay/Long Time
"Foreplay"/"Long Time" is a suite by American rock band Boston, written by Tom Scholz. It appears on their 1976 self-titled debut album and "Long Time" is their second single for Epic Records. The song combines an instrumental introduction, "Foreplay", with the main song "Long Time", generally played as one on the radio and listed as one track on the album. "Long Time" peaked at No. 22 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 the week ending March 5, 1977. It reached the Top 10 in Canada, peaking at No. 9. The standalone "Foreplay" was released as the B-side of Boston's next single " Peace of Mind", which was released in April. In an interview for the ''Best of Boston'' CD, Scholz said that "Foreplay" was the first song he ever recorded, and he did this on a two-track machine in his basement. "Peace of Mind" is a song by American rock band Boston, written by Tom Scholz. It was on their 1976 self-titled debut, and was released the next year as the third and final single from the album. It peaked at number 38 on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in 1977, as well as number 33 on the ''Cash Box'' Top 100. It received substantial radio airplay, both upon the initial release of the ''Boston'' album and subsequently, and has been described as a "rock-radio staple". Writing and recording "Peace of Mind" is one of six songs, five of which eventually appeared on the ''Boston'' album, that Scholz worked on in his basement in 1974 and 1975, before Boston got its record contract. "More Than a Feeling" is a song by the American rock band Boston, released as the lead single and the opening track from the band's 1976 debut album by Epic Records in September 1976, with " Smokin' as the B-side. Tom Scholz wrote the entire song. The single entered the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 on September 18 and peaked at number five. The track is now a staple of classic rock radio, and in 2008, it was named the 39th-best hard rock song of all time by VH1. It was included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame list of the "500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll" and was ranked number 212 on ''Rolling Stones "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list in 2021, updated from its previous position of number 500 on the 2004 version. ''Boston'' is the debut studio album by American rock band Boston, released on August 25, 1976, by Epic Records. It was produced by band guitarist Tom Scholz and John Boylan. A multi-instrumentalist and engineer who had been involved in the Boston music scene since the late 1960s, Scholz started to write and record demos in his apartment basement with singer Brad Delp, but received numerous rejections from major record labels. The demo tape fell into the hands of CBS-owned Epic, which signed the band in 1975. Defying Epic Records's insistence on recording the album professionally in Los Angeles, Scholz and Boylan deceived label executives into believing the band was recording on the West Coast, when in reality, the bulk was being tracked solely by Scholz in his Massachusetts home. Kimberley Dahme
Kimberley Dahme (born April 22, 1966) is an American rock/country musician who is best known as a former member of the rock band Boston. She played bass, rhythm guitar and provided vocals. Career Dahme became the first female member of Boston in 2002. She learned to play the bass and began performing with Boston at the 2002 Fiesta Bowl and toured for the '' Corporate America'' album. Her song "With You" is also featured on ''Corporate America''. Michael Harrison Sweet (born July 4, 1963) is an American musician; he is the co-founder, songwriter, guitarist and lead singer of the heavy metal music, metal band Stryper. He has also had a successful solo career and served as singer and guitarist for Boston (band), Boston from 2007 to 2011. Fran Cosmo is an American musician best known as a former lead singer of the rock bands Boston and Orion the Hunter. Career Cosmo was first featured on guitarist Barry Goudreau's self-titled solo album in 1980, a prelude to the formation of Orion the Hunter in 1983. Orion the Hunter released an album in 1984 on Columbia Records, which yielded the hit single "So You Ran". The band opened for Aerosmith in 1984. Tracy Ferrie
Tracy Ferrie is an American musician, who is the current bass player for the classic rock band Boston and is the former bass player of Christian metal band Stryper. Biography Ferrie grew up in Northern Indiana where he was encouraged by his high school band director to pursue music, leading him to study at Berklee College of Music in the Music Production and Engineering deptartments. During his grade school days, Ferrie learned to play various instruments including tuba, guitar, upright bass, and percussion, but was requested to play electric bass by his band director. Bass quickly became Ferrie's main instrument and gained him many session gigs, live and in the studio. After two and a half years of studying at Berklee, Ferrie was attacked and mugged outside of Boston. After hospitalization and multiple surgeries, Ferrie moved back home to Indiana recover.
