Antoine Valentin
Antoine Valentin (born 16 October 1992) is a French politician serving as mayor of Saint-Jeoire since 2020. He has served as president of Massif des Brasses since 2021, and as a general delegate of the Union of the Right for the Republic since 2024. Early life and career Valentin was formerly a member of Debout la France, and was elected departmental secretary of the party in Haute-Savoie in 2014. In the 2015 departmental elections, he was a candidate for the Departmental Council of Haute-Savoie in the canton of Bonneville. In the 2017 legislative election, he was the substitute of independent candidate Charles Hedrich in Haute-Savoie's 6th constituency. He later joined The Republicans and endorsed Julien Aubert in the 2019 leadership election. In the 2020 municipal elections, Valentin was elected mayor of Saint-Jeoire in an upset. Éric Ciotti ( or , ; born 28 September 1965) is a French politician who led The Republicans (LR) from 2022 to 2024. He has represented Alpes-Maritimes's 1st constituency in the National Assembly since the 2007 legislative election. Once a member of The Republicans' right-wing, he was seeking to distance the party from Emmanuel Macron's presidency. He left The Republicans in 2024, and is now the leader of the Union of the Right for the Republic (UDR) party and parliamentary group. The two-round system (TRS or 2RS), sometimes called ballotage, top-two runoff, or two-round plurality, is a single-winner electoral system which aims to elect a member who has support of the majority of voters. The two-round system involves one or two rounds of choose-one voting, where the voter marks a single favorite candidate in each round. 2022 French Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in France on 10 and 24 April 2022. As no candidate won a majority in the first round, a Two-round system, runoff was held, in which Emmanuel Macron defeated Marine Le Pen and was re-elected as President of France. Macron, from La République En Marche! (LREM), had defeated Le Pen, leader of the National Rally, once already in the 2017 French presidential election, for the term which expired on 13 May 2022. Macron became the first president of France to win a re-election bid since Jacques Chirac won in 2002 French presidential election, 2002.
