Antoine Omer Talon
Antoine Omer Talon (20 January 1760 in Paris–18 August 1811 in Gretz) was a French counter-revolutionary. He was born in Paris on 20 January 1760, he was the father of Jean-Baptiste, seigneur of Boullay Thierry. He married Jeanne-Agnès-Gabrielle, countess of Pestre, from a rich family of nobles that originated from Belgium. He had two children, Denis-Mathieu-Claire (born on 20 November 1783 in Paris) and Zoé-Victoire (born 2 August 1785) in Boullay-Thierry. He later attended the French Parliament on July 1, 1781. Talon along with Talleyrand fled to the United States in 1793 on the boat ''Alien Bill'' to Philadelphia. He took part in the founding of a colony named French Azilum. He later returned to France and took part in the Directory and consulate of the First French Empire. He died in Gretz in 1811. Zoé Talon Du Cayla
Zoé Victoire Talon (5 August 1785 – 19 March 1852), styled ''comtesse du Cayla'', was an intimate friend and confidante of Louis XVIII of France, and was his '' maîtresse-en-titre''. Early life She was born at Le Boullay-Thierry. She was the daughter of a royal ''avocat'', Antoine Omer Talon (1760–1811), and was privately educated and groomed by Madame Campan, whose school Lamartine called an academy of feminine diplomacy. Relationship with the king In 1802 she married the comte Baschi du Cayla (died 1851), with whom she had two children, Ugolin and Ugoline before being separated after prolonged litigation, which brought her to the attention of Louis XVIII, to whom she personally appealed for protection from her husband. She managed to retain the confidence, however, of her mother-in-law, a lady-in-waiting in the household of the comtesse de Provence, who now became titular queen of France. French Azilum
French Azilum (french: Asile français) was a planned settlement built in 1793 in Bradford County, Pennsylvania for French refugees fleeing the French Revolution and slave uprisings in Saint-Domingue. Several influential Philadelphians, including Stephen Girard, Robert Morris and John Nicholson, Pennsylvania's comptroller general, were sympathetic to the exiles, and also saw a chance to profit financially. In 1793, they aided in the purchase of of land in northeastern Pennsylvania, which was then wilderness. An area of was laid out as a town plot including a market square, a grid of broad streets and 413 lots, approximately one-half acre each. About 30 log houses were built. A small number of exiles arrived that fall. Some were royalists, loyal to King Louis XVI (guillotined in January 1793) and thus fleeing imprisonment and possible death during the French Revolution.
