Anthony Peak (California)
Anthony Peak is a mountain located in the Mendocino National Forest north of Mendocino Pass and is part of the Northern Coast Ranges of Mendocino County, California, Mendocino County, California, approximately NE of Covelo, California, Covelo. The summit is the highest point in Mendocino County, and averages 61.8 inches at peak snow pack depth annually. The rare endemism, endemic wildflower known as Lupinus antoninus, Anthony Peak lupine (''Lupinus antoninus'') was named for this peak. The peak was probably named for James Anthony, who owned a farm in the Round Valley district in 1874. Howard Lake is a natural lake in northwestern Mendocino County, California, located in the Mendocino National Forest at an elevation of . It covers an area of . Lupinus Antoninus
''Lupinus antoninus'' is a rare species of lupine known by the common name Anthony Peak lupine. It is endemic to northern California, where it is known from only four occurrences in the North Coast Ranges, including near Anthony Peak. Description ''Lupinus antoninus'' grows in mountain forests often amongst firs. This is a hairy, erect perennial herb growing tall. Each palmate leaf is made up of 6 or 7 leaflets each long. The herbage is coated in gray or silvery hairs. The inflorescence is up to long, bearing many flowers each just over a centimeter long. The flower is whitish with a light brownish wash on its banner.
