Anthony Lima
Anthony "Tony" Lima, (born 17 January 1946) is a Gibraltarians, Gibraltarian politician, and former Mayor of Gibraltar. He was appointed to the office of deputy mayor on 1 August 2011 and to that of mayor on 1 August 2012. He was a former Gibraltar Customs, Customs Collector and Commanding officer of the Royal Naval Reserve (RNR) unit HMS Calpe (shore establishment), HMS Calpe. Career Lima began his career almost 50 years before being appointed mayor when he was interviewed for Clerk Grade 2 with the then Gibraltar City Council, City Council at the Gibraltar City Hall, City Hall. Gibraltar Constitution Order 1969
The Gibraltar Constitution Order 1969 was published on 30 May 1969 as an Order in Council. The constitution was the outcome of the Constitutional Conference chaired by the 2nd Baron Shepherd which lasted from 16 to 24 July 1968. His Majesty's Government of Gibraltar is the democratically elected government of the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. The head of state is King Charles III who is represented by the Governor. Elections in Gibraltar are held every four years, with a unicameral parliament of 18 members of which 17 members are elected by popular vote and one, the Speaker, appointed by Parliament. Gibraltar Constitution Order 2006
The Gibraltar Constitution Order 2006 was taken to a referendum in Gibraltar on 30 November 2006. A coalition of groups opposing the proposal held that a majority of 60% should be required to give effect to a new Constitution, quoting other instances, but the political parties held that the result should be decided by a simple majority in favour of the new constitution. The constitution was approved by 60% of the votes anyway. It was given effect by an Order in Council on 14 December 2006 and it came into force on 2 January 2007. According to the British government, it aimed to provide a modern and mature relationship that is not based on colonialism between Gibraltar and the United Kingdom. "Splice the mainbrace" is an order given aboard naval vessels to issue the crew with an alcoholic drink. Originally an order for one of the most difficult emergency repair jobs aboard a sailing ship, it became a euphemism for authorized celebratory drinking afterward, and then the name of an order to grant the crew an extra ration of rum or grog. History Braces are the lines that control the angle of the yards. On square-rigged ships, the mainbrace was the longest line in all of the running rigging. It was common to aim for the ship's rigging during naval battles.
