Anthony Jephson (after 1748 – June 1794) was an Irish Member of Parliament. Mallow Castle
Mallow Castle is a National Monument situated off the N72 on Bridewell Lane, Mallow, County Cork, Ireland. Description The site is composed of gardens and parkland on which three buildings sit: the remains of a 16th-century fortified house, a 19th-century mansion to the north, and the ruins of a 13th-century castle to the east. The fortified house is a long rectangular three-storey building, with two polygonal towers on the north-west and south-west corners. It is early Jacobean in style, featuring high gables, stepped battlements, and mullioned windows. The wings of the house project from the centre of the south and north walls, with the entrance in the north wing. The design of the house was to provide a field of fire around it entirely. The 19th-century baronial mansion has parts which date to the 1690s and is situated near the older ruined Mallow Castle. Sir John Aubrey, 3rd Baronet
Sir John Aubrey, 3rd Baronet (20 June 1680 – 16 April 1743), of Llantriddyd, Glamorgan, and Boarstall, Buckinghamshire, was a British Whig politician who sat in the English House of Commons from 1706 to 1707, and then in the British House of Commons from 1707 to 1710. Background Aubrey was the son of Sir John Aubrey, 2nd Baronet, and his first wife Margaret Lowther, daughter of Sir John Lowther, 1st Baronet. In 1700, Aubrey succeeded his father in the baronetcy. He matriculated at Jesus College, Oxford, on 7 April 1698, aged 17. On 20 June 1701 at St James's Church, Piccadilly, he married Mary Steally, his mother's ‘waiting maid’ whom he had got with child. Career Aubrey was elected as Member of Parliament (MP) for Cardiff at a by-election on 1 February 1706, on the recommendation of Thomas Mansel. Mallow was a constituency represented in the Irish House of Commons until 1800 and was incorporated by Charter of 1613, with a further charter of 1689. It was a manor borough, the franchise being vested in the freeholders of the manor and the returning officer its Seneschal. It was controlled by the Jephson family until the 1780s. Sir James Cotter, 2nd Baronet
Sir James Laurence Cotter, 2nd Baronet (1748 – 9 February 1829) was an Anglo-Irish politician. Cotter was the eldest son of Sir James Cotter, 1st Baronet and Arabella Rogerson. He was a Member of Parliament in the Irish House of Commons, representing Taghmon from 1771 to 1776 and Mallow from 1783 to 1790. In 1790 he was elected in both Dingle and Castlemartyr, choosing to sit for the latter until the seat's disenfranchisement under the Acts of Union 1800.E. M. 1783 Irish General Election
General elections were held in the Kingdom of Ireland in 1783, the first after the passing of the series of constitutional legal changes known as the Constitution of 1782, which lifted the substantial legal restrictions on the Irish parliament. The elections were fought in a highly-charged political atmosphere, with a major emphasis on the issues of parliamentary reform and free trade. Following the election, Sexton Pery was re-elected Speaker. Henry Grattan, the leader of the Patriot Party, had rejected an office in government in 1782, choosing instead to continue his role in opposition. Instead, the Dublin Castle administration was undertaken by a group that was referred to by Edmund Burke as the Junta; dominated by individuals such as John FitzGibbon, the new Attorney General and later Lord Chancellor.
