Anthony Gill (professor)
Anthony J Gill is an Australian pathologist, professor of surgical pathology at the University of Sydney and the chairman of the Australian Pancreatic Cancer Genome Initiative - part of the International Cancer Genome Consortium. Most of his research is focused on translating the improved understanding of cancer gained at the basic science level into clinically useful Medical test, diagnostic tests which can be applied in the routine surgical pathology laboratory. In addition to his work on pancreatic carcinoma as chairman of the Australian Pancreatic Cancer Genome Initiative, Gill is best known for his description of the class of malignancies now known as SDHB, succinate dehydrogenase deficient (SDH deficient) - including SDH deficient Renal Carcinoma and SDH deficient Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumour (GIST). The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC; ) is an intergovernmental agency forming part of the World Health Organization of the United Nations. Its role is to conduct and coordinate research into the causes of cancer. It also cancer registry, collects and publishes disease surveillance, surveillance data regarding the occurrence of cancer worldwide. Ramzi S. Cotran (1932-2000) was a pathologist and former president of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) and the American Society for Investigative Pathology (ASIP). He was chair of pathology at Harvard's Brigham and Women's Hospital and Children's Hospital Medical Center, as well as the Frank B. Mallory Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School and a member of the National Academy of Science's Institute of Medicine. Benjamin Castleman (May 17, 1906, Everett, Massachusetts – June 29, 1982, Boston, Massachusetts) was an American physician and pathologist best known for describing Castleman's disease (angiofollicular lymphoid hyperplasia), which is named after him. He was also one of the authors of the first case series on pulmonary alveolar proteinosis in a 1958 article in the ''New England Journal of Medicine''. ("Rosen–Castleman–Liebow syndrome" is a rarely used term for that condition.) Castleman undertook clinicopathologic investigations of parathyroid disease and wrote several important papers on diseases of the thymus and mediastinum.
