Anthony Davies (other)
Anthony Davies (born 2 December 1969) is a Welsh former professional snooker player, who competed on the professional circuit from 1991 to 2005. Davies started playing snooker aged 12. He made his first maximum break aged 18. His best performance was at the 1996 European Open, where he reached the quarter-finals after eliminating James Wattana and Joe Johnson. In 2002, he also reached the last 16 of the World Championship. Davies remained in the top 32 in the world rankings for three seasons, peaking at number 26, until a disappointing 2003/2004 season. He was relegated from the main tour in 2005. Since 1998, he has been an official coach for World Snooker. He has established two junior clubs in the South Wales area, helping to increase participation levels and improve playing performance amongst local snooker players. The snooker world rankings are the official system of ranking professional snooker players to determine their qualification and seeding for events on the World Snooker Tour and other tournaments, as well as their future professional status on the tour. 2014–15 Snooker Season
The 2014–15 snooker season was a series of snooker tournaments played between 8 May 2014 and 4 May 2015. The Riga Open was the first professional snooker tournament held in Latvia. The season also saw the first professional tournament in Portugal as the Lisbon Open took place. In November, it was announced that the World Open would not be held this season after the contract with the promoter was not renewed and a new venue was not found in time. But the intention was to bring the event back for the next season. The structure of the World Championship was changed. The top 16 seeds still qualified automatically for the first round at the Crucible, but all non-seeded players had to start in the first of three qualifying rounds. The overall championship was increased from 128 to 144 players, with the additional places made available to former world champions and players from emerging countries. 2013–14 Snooker Season
The 2013–14 snooker season was a series of snooker tournaments played between 6 June 2013 and 5 May 2014. From this season every qualifying match was held open to the public at various venues in the United Kingdom, replacing the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. The number of wild-card players at the Chinese ranking events, except the Shanghai Masters, was reduced from eight to four and former Main Tour players were excluded. A professional player could not be selected for more than one wild-card match during the season. In all but three tournaments, every player participated in round one featuring 64 seeds for the first time in the history of snooker. In nine of the ranking tournaments all players took part in the first round, with the winners travelling to the final venue. LG Corporation signed a sponsorship agreement with World Snooker, and the seven world ranking events before the World Championship were branded as the "LG Electronics Tour". These tournaments carried conventional ranking points but also had a separate points system, with a £50,000 prize for the player who accumulated the most points during the LG Electronics Tour.
