Anthony Carter (baseball)
Anthony Scott Carter (born April 4, 1986) is an American professional baseball pitcher who is a free agent. He previously pitched for the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters of Nippon Professional Baseball. He was a member of the United States national baseball team that won a silver medal in the 2020 Summer Olympics. Professional career Chicago White Sox Carter graduated from Parkview High School in Lilburn, Georgia. He attended Georgia Perimeter College, and was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 26th round of the 2005 MLB draft. He made his professional debut in 2006 with the Bristol White Sox and spent the whole season there as a starter, going 2–8 with a 7.67 ERA across 63.1 innings. In 2007, Carter was promoted to the Great Falls White Sox and posted much better numbers, with a 5–3 record and 3.93 ERA in 15 starts. International League
The International League (IL) is a Minor League Baseball league that operates in the United States. Along with the Pacific Coast League, it is one of two leagues playing at the Triple-A level, which is one grade below Major League Baseball (MLB). The league traces its roots to 1884, while the modern IL began in 1912. Following MLB's reorganization of the minor leagues in 2021, it operated as the Triple-A East for one season before switching back to its previous moniker in 2022. It is so named because throughout its history the International League had teams in Canada and Cuba as well as those in the United States. Since 2008, however, all of its teams have been based in the US. Pawtucket Red Sox
The Pawtucket Red Sox, known colloquially as the PawSox, were a professional minor league baseball club based in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. From 1973 to 2020, the team was a member of the International League and served as the Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. In baseball, a setup man (or set-up man, also sometimes referred to as a setup pitcher or setup reliever) is a relief pitcher who regularly pitches before the closer. They commonly pitch the eighth inning, with the closer pitching the ninth. As closers were reduced to one-inning specialists, setup men became more prominent. Setup pitchers often come into the game with the team losing or the game tied. They are usually the second best relief pitcher on a team, behind the closer. Triple-A (officially Class AAA) has been the highest level of play in Minor League Baseball in the United States since 1946. Currently, two leagues operate at the Triple-A level, the International League (IL) and the Pacific Coast League (PCL). There are 30 teams, one per each Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise, with 20 in the IL and 10 in the PCL. Triple-A teams are generally located in smaller cities as well as larger metropolitan areas without MLB teams, such as Austin, Jacksonville, Columbus, and Indianapolis. In baseball, a closing pitcher, more frequently referred to as a closer (abbreviated CL), is a relief pitcher who specializes in getting the final outs in a close game when his team is leading. The role is often assigned to a team's best reliever. Before the 1990s, pitchers in similar roles were referred to as a fireman, short reliever, and stopper. A small number of closers have won the Cy Young Award. The Birmingham Barons are a Minor League Baseball team based in Birmingham, Alabama.
