Annie McKitrick
Annie Jeanne Francoise McKitrick (born 1952) is a Canadian politician who represented the electoral district of Sherwood Park in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 2015 to 2019. Early life and career McKitrick, born in France, came to Canada to attend McGill University, where she obtained a bachelor of science in ecology. McKitrick also has a master's degree in education and a diploma in public-sector management from the University of Victoria. McKitrick worked as a researcher with a grant from the Canadian International Development Agency in Kyrgyzstan, as a co-ordinator for income generating projects in Thailand, and for a nongovernmental organization responsible for refugee and community development programs in Southeast Asia. From 1996 until 2005, McKitrick was a school trustee and chair of the Richmond school board in Richmond, British Columbia. Sherwood Park
Sherwood Park is a large hamlet in Alberta, Canada within Strathcona County that is recognized as an urban service area. It is located adjacent to the City of Edmonton's eastern boundary, generally south of Highway 16 (Yellowhead Trail), west of Highway 21 and north of Highway 630 (Wye Road). Other portions of Sherwood Park extend beyond Yellowhead Trail and Wye Road, while Anthony Henday Drive (Highway 216) separates Refinery Row to the west from the balance of the hamlet to the east. Sherwood Park was established in 1955 on farmland of the Smeltzer family, east of Edmonton. With a population of 72,017 in 2021, Sherwood Park has enough people to be Alberta's sixth largest city, but it retains the status of a hamlet. Sherwood Park (electoral District)
Sherwood Park is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, Canada. History The electoral district was created in the 1986 boundary redistribution from the old electoral district of Edmonton-Sherwood Park. The 2010 boundary redistribution kept the district unchanged from its 2003 boundaries. Cathy Olesen
Cathy Olesen (born c. 1961) is a politician in Alberta, Canada. She served on Strathcona County Council from 1995, first as a councillor then mayor, until her defeat in 2010. Olesen then went into provincial politics, and represented Sherwood Park from the 2012 provincial election until her defeat in the 2015 provincial election. Political career Cathy Olesen successfully ran for County councillor, in the new Ward 4, in 1995. She held this position for three terms, until deciding to take a run for mayor. The 2015 Alberta general election was held on May 5, 2015, following a request of Premier Jim Prentice to the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Donald Ethell to dissolve the Legislative Assembly on April 7, 2015. This election elected members to the 29th Alberta Legislature. It was only the fourth time in provincial history that saw a change of government, and was the last provincial election for both the Alberta Progressive Conservative and Wildrose Parties, which would merge in 2017 to form the United Conservative Party (although each would run a token candidate in the 2019 election). The 2019 Alberta general election was held on April 16, 2019, to elect 87 members to the 30th Alberta Legislature. In its first general election contest, the Jason Kenney-led United Conservative Party (UCP) won 54.88% of the popular vote and 63 seats, defeating incumbent Premier Rachel Notley. The governing Alberta New Democratic Party (NDP) were reduced to 24 seats and formed the Official Opposition.
