''Annette'' is a 2021 musical film, musical romance film, romantic drama (film and television), drama film directed by Leos Carax in his English-language directorial debut. The film's story and music were written by Ron Mael, Russell Mael, with lyrics co-written by Carax. The film, which has been described as a rock opera, follows a stand-up comedian (Adam Driver) and his opera singer wife (Marion Cotillard), and how their lives are changed when they have their first child. Simon Helberg and Devyn McDowell also appear. An international co-production between France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, the United States, Mexico and Japan, ''Annette'' was premiered on 6 July 2021 as the opening film at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival, where Carax received the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Director, Best Director award.
