Anne Stanley, Countess Of Ancram
Anne Stanley, Countess of Ancram (died 1657) was an English aristocrat. Anne Stanley was a daughter of William Stanley, 6th Earl of Derby, and Elizabeth de Vere, Countess of Derby. On 20 July 1615, she married Sir Henry Portman (1596–1621) of Orchard Portman, Somerset, a Member of Parliament and Keeper of Roche Forest. The couple had no children. In November 1621, Prince Charles wrote to Anne's mother, proposing Sir Robert Kerr as a second husband for Anne, arguing that his position in court as a Gentleman of the Bedchamber made up for his lack of wealth. Anne married Kerr. He became the Earl of Ancram in 1633. Kerr lived in exile in Amsterdam during the Civil War. His royal pension was stopped by the Commonwealth. Lady Ancram petitioned Parliament for funds in both September 1653 and again in 1654, seeking support for her six surviving children. She received £5 weekly. Anne, Lady Kerr
Anne Kerr, Lady Kerr (, previously Robson; 191416 September 1997) was the second wife of Sir John Kerr, Governor-General of Australia (1974–1977). They were married in 1975 during his term of office, six months after the death of his first wife Alison. Biography Anne Dorothy Taggart was born in 1914. She was known as Nancy to her friends. She was an honours graduate from the University of Sydney. In 1935 she was awarded a French Government travelling scholarship and gained her Master of Arts from the Sorbonne, Paris. She appeared as an official French-English interpreter at more than 30 international conferences over ten years, including Colombo Plan meetings. On one occasion she interpreted for Jawaharlal Nehru at a United Nations human rights seminar in New Delhi. She was also fluent in German. Anne Patricia Kerr (''née'' Bersey; 24 March 1925 – 29 July 1973) was a Labour Party (UK), British Labour Party politician who was elected for two successive terms as a Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament. Early life Born in Putney into a Methodist family, she spent most of her childhood in west London, attending St Paul's Girls' School, St Paul's Girls School. She was evacuated to Budleigh Salterton in Devon, during the Second World War, and later joined the Women's Royal Naval Service. In 1944 she married James Doran Clark (subsequently TV and film scriptwriter James Doran) and in 1945 they had a son, Paddy. They were divorced in 1952. Anne Ker (; 17 November 1766 – ) was an English writer who published six novels between 1799 and 1817. She aimed for commercial success, writing in the popular Romance and Gothic genres. Anne Ker's writing was supported financially by a number of subscribers, including Lady Jerningham, wife of the writer Lord Jerningham, and the Princess of Wales, Caroline of Brunswick. Her marriage into the Ker family, which was headed by the third Duke of Roxburghe, John Ker, is also thought to have assisted her creative work. Literary significance Rachel Howard, compiler of Ker's biography for the journal ''Reading the Romantic Text'', writes that Ker was a 'determined and outspoken character whose bold opinions on fiction contributed to contemporary debates about women's reading and writing'.
