''Mathematical Reviews'' is a journal published by the American Mathematical Society (AMS) that contains brief synopses, and in some cases evaluations, of many articles in mathematics, statistics, and theoretical computer science. The AMS also publishes an associated online bibliographic database called MathSciNet, which contains an electronic version of ''Mathematical Reviews''. Reviews Mathematical Reviews was founded by Otto E. Neugebauer in 1940 as an alternative to the German journal '' Zentralblatt für Mathematik'', which Neugebauer had also founded a decade earlier, but which under the Nazis had begun censoring reviews by and of Jewish mathematicians. Sławomir Kołodziej
Sławomir Kołodziej (Polish: ; born 12 March 1961, Bielsko-Biała) is a Polish mathematician and Professor at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. His research interests include complex analysis and theoretical mathematics including Monge–Ampère equation and plurisubharmonic functions. Life and career He graduated in mathematics from the Jagiellonian University and continued his scientific career there obtaining his doctoral degree written under the supervision of Józef Siciak in 1989. He further received his habilitation in 1998 and the title of professor in 2005. He assumed the chair of Mathematical Analysis at the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Jagiellonian University. His doctoral students include Rafał Czyż and Sławomir Dinew. The Polish Mathematical Society () is the main professional society of Polish mathematicians and represents Polish mathematics within the European Mathematical Society (EMS) and the International Mathematical Union (IMU). History The society was established in Kraków, Poland on 2 April 1919 . It was originally called the Mathematical Society in Kraków, the name was changed to the Polish Mathematical Society on 21 April 1920. It was founded by 16 mathematicians, Stanisław Zaremba, Franciszek Leja, Alfred Rosenblatt, Stefan Banach and Otto Nikodym were among them. Ever since its foundation, the society's main activity was to bring mathematicians together by means of organizing conferences and lectures. Stanisław Zaremba (mathematician)
Stanisław Zaremba (3 October 1863 – 23 November 1942) was a Polish mathematician and engineer.. His research in partial differential equations, applied mathematics and classical analysis, particularly on harmonic functions, gained him a wide recognition. He was one of the mathematicians who contributed to the success of the Polish School of Mathematics through his teaching and organizational skills as well as through his research. Apart from his research works, Zaremba wrote many university textbooks and monographies. He was a professor of the Jagiellonian University (since 1900), member of Academy of Learning (since 1903), co-founder and president of the Polish Mathematical Society (1919), and the first editor of the '' Annales de la Société Polonaise de Mathématique''.
