Anna Stonum
Anna Marie Stonum (October 14, 1958 – February 6, 1999) was an American artist and Disability rights movement, disability rights activist based in Chicago. Early life and education Stonum was from Granite City, Illinois, the daughter of Robert Stonum and Julia Sedej Stonum. Her father worked at a steel mill and was mayor of Glen Carbon, Illinois; her mother worked at a Charles M. Price Support Center, Granite City Army Depot. Stonum was a Girl Guides, Girl Scout, in her mother's Brownies (Scouting), Brownie troop. She attended Granite City's North High School, and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (BFA) at Mundelein College in Chicago. Career Stonum was a founding member of the Chicago chapter of ADAPT, a disability rights organization then known as American Disabled for Accessible Public Transit. Disability Rights Movement
The disability rights movement is a global social movement that seeks to secure equal opportunities and equal rights for all disabled people. It is made up of organizations of disability activists, also known as disability advocates, around the world working together with similar goals and demands, such as: accessibility and safety in architecture, transportation, and the physical environment; equal opportunities in independent living, employment equity, education, and housing; and freedom from discrimination, abuse, neglect, and from other rights violations.
