Anna Monro
Anna Monro (born 1974) is an Australian botanist, who is working on compiling the Australian Plant Census. Her interests include the taxonomy of the Australian members of the family ''Polygalaceae'', in preparation for their inclusion in the ''Flora of Australia''. She is the leader for the "Communications and Outreach" program at the Centre for Australian National Biodiversity Research. From 2004 to 2008, she served as treasurer of the Australasian Systematic Botany Society (ASBS) and, , is its publicity officer. She was awarded life membership of the ASBS in 2024. Her name, along with that of Brendan Lepschi is honoured in the name of the species of flowering plant, '' Goodenia brendannarum''. The Australian Plant Census (APC) provides an online interface to currently accepted, published, scientific names of the vascular flora of Australia, as one of the output interfaces of the national government Integrated Biodiversity Information System (IBIS – an Oracle Co. relational database management system). The Australian National Herbarium, Australian National Botanic Gardens, Australian Biological Resources Study and the Council of Heads of Australasian Herbaria coordinate the system. Polygalaceae
The Polygalaceae or the milkwort family are made up of flowering plants in the order Fabales. They have a near-cosmopolitan range, with about 27 genera and ''ca''. 900 known species of herbs, shrubs and trees. Over half of the species are in one genus, '' Polygala'', the milkworts. The family was first described in 1809 by Johann Hoffmansegg and Johann Link. In 1896, Robert Chodat split it into 3 tribes. A fourth tribe was split off from the tribe Polygaleae in 1992. Under the Cronquist classification system, Polygalaceae were treated in a separate order of their own, Polygalales. ''Goodenia brendannarum'' is a species of flowering plant in the family Goodeniaceae, and is endemic to a small area in the south-west of Western Australia. It is a perennial herb with woody stems, crowded, narrowly egg-shaped leaves with toothed edges, and erect flowering stems and orange-yellow and red flowers. Description ''Goodenia brendannarum'' is a more or less glabrous, perennial herb with erect stems up to long. Its leaves are sessile and crowded, egg-shaped with the narrower end towards the base, long and wide with toothed edges. The flowers are borne on a flowering stem up to long with linear bracteoles up to long at the base.
