Anna Haverland
Anna Haverland (8 January 1854 – 31 May 1908) was a German actress who also worked as a writer. Life Haverland trained as an actress in her home-town Berlin with Karl Gustav Berndal and Minona Frieb-Blumauer. She got her first engagement in 1871 at the Altes Theater (Leipzig), Stadttheater Leipzig, where she was fixed on the role of the youthful lover. Her engagement in Leipzig ended in 1874; it followed an engagement at the Semperoper, Dresdner Hoftheater. There, she was cast in the heroine parts, played leading roles in modern plays and classical works, and gained general recognition "through the nobility of her conception and the noble sculpture of her movements".''Haverland, Anna''. Deutsches Theater (Berlin)
The Deutsches Theater is a theater in Berlin, Germany. It was built in 1850 as Friedrich-Wilhelm-Städtisches Theater, after Frederick William IV of Prussia. Located on Schumann Street (Schumannstraße), the Deutsches Theater consists of two adjoining stages that share a common, classical facade. The main stage was built in 1850, originally for operettas. Klara Ziegler, also Clara Ziegler, (27 April 1844 – 19 December 1909) was a German stage actress and writer. Life Born in Munich, Ziegler, the daughter of a whitewashing owner, was to marry a highly respected, wealthy man at her mother's request after the death of her father (1860). But she did not want to and took acting lessons from the court actor Adolf Christen, a long-time friend of the family. Ziegler gave her debut at the Stadttheater in Ulm and had her first role (under the pseudonym Herzfeld) in 1862 at the E.T.A.-Hoffmann-Theater as '' The Maid of Orleans'', then went for the same role to the Nationaltheater München and to the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, where she had great success. Charlotte Wolter (March 1, 1834June 14, 1897), Austrian actress, was born at Cologne, and began her artistic career at Budapest in 1857. Biography She played minor parts at the theatre in Vienna, and soon obtained an engagement at the Victoria theatre in Berlin, where she remained until 1861. Her performance of Hermione in the ''Winter's Tale'' took the play-going world by storm, and she was given in 1862 an appointment at the Vienna Hofburg theatre, to which she remained faithful until her death. According to her wish, she was buried in the costume of Iphigenia, in which role she had achieved her most brilliant success. The Niederwald monument (german: Niederwalddenkmal) is a monument located in the Niederwald, near Rüdesheim am Rhein in Hesse, Germany, built between 1871 and 1883 to commemorate the Unification of Germany. The monument is located within the Rhine Gorge, a larger UNESCO World Heritage Site. It overlooks the Rhine Valley and the town of Bingen on the far side. History The monument was constructed to commemorate the founding of the German Empire in 1871 after the end of the Franco-Prussian War. Johannes Schilling
Johannes Schilling (23 June 1828 in Mittweida – 21 March 1910 in Klotzsche near Dresden) was a German sculptor. Life and work Johannes Schilling was the youngest of five children. A year after his birth, his family moved to Dresden, where he grew up. At the age of six, he was sent to a private school and, at fourteen, attended the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts where he was taught drawing by Karl Gottlieb Peschel. After graduating in 1845, he became one of the master pupils in the studio of sculptor Ernst Rietschel. In 1851 and 1852, he went to Berlin to continue his studies with Christian Daniel Rauch and Friedrich Drake. In 1852, he returned to Dresden, where he worked in the studios of Ernst Julius Hähnel. ''Iphigenia in Tauris'' (german: Iphigenie auf Tauris, links=no) is a reworking by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe of the ancient Greek tragedy Ἰφιγένεια ἐν Ταύροις ('' Iphigeneia en Taurois'') by Euripides. Theodor Fontane (; 30 December 1819 – 20 September 1898) was a German novelist and poet, regarded by many as the most important 19th-century German-language realist author. He published the first of his novels, for which he is best known today, only at age 58 after a career as a journalist. Lessing Theatre
The Lessing Theater was a theatre in the Mitte district of Berlin, Germany. It opened in 1888 and was destroyed in April 1945 in a bombing raid; its ruins were demolished after World War II. The construction of the theatre, for around 900,000 Mark, was especially notable since it was the first new theatre built in Berlin since the construction of the Wallner Theater in 1864; in between only renovations of old theatres and existing spaces had taken place. By order of director Oscar Blumenthal, the building, designed in a Renaissance Revival style by the architects Hermann von der Hude and Julius Hennicke, was constructed in less than a year, between October 1887 and September 1888.
