Anna Appleby (1738-1798)
Anna Appleby (born 1993, Newcastle Upon Tyne) is a British composer and songwriter of contemporary classical and electronic music, based in Manchester, UK. Her electronic music is released under her alter-ego Norrisette. She is also a published short story author. Appleby composed an opera, ''Drought,'' for the BBC Philharmonic and singers from the Royal Northern College of Music, with words by poet Niall Campbell, which was premiered in October 2022 and broadcast on BBC Radio 3 in August 2023. Appleby was Music Fellow with Rambert in 2016/17. She was commissioned by Joss Arnott Dance and her ballet score for "Tin Man" was played by Psappha and toured the UK in 2022-23. Appleby co-composed a collaborative youth opera for Glyndebourne which won 'Best Opera' at the YAM Awards in 2023. ''BBC Breakfast'' is a British television breakfast news programme, produced by BBC News and broadcast on BBC One every morning from 6:00am. It is also broadcast on the UK feed of BBC News channel on weekends. Streetwise Opera
Streetwise Opera (stylised as STREETWISE OPERÅÅÅ) is a charitable opera non-profit organisation based in London and covering Manchester and Nottingham in addition to London. Glyndebourne Festival Opera
Glyndebourne Festival Opera is an annual opera festival held at Glyndebourne, an English country house near Lewes, in East Sussex, England. History Under the supervision of the Christie family, the festival has been held annually since 1934, except in 1941–45 during World War II and 1993 when the theatre was being rebuilt, for a 1994 reopening. Gus Christie, son of Sir George Christie and grandson of festival founder John Christie, became festival chairman in 2000. Psappha (ensemble)
Psappha was an ensemble of contemporary classical musicians based in Manchester in the North West of England, specialised in the performance of works by living composers. Founded in 1991 by artistic director Tim Williams, the ensemble moved into a new home in 2015, St Michael's, Ancoats, Manchester. The ensemble had a core instrumentation of flute, clarinet, piano, percussion, violin, viola and cello. Psappha closed in November 2023 due to Arts Council England withdrawing 100% of its regular funding to the ensemble. Association with Peter Maxwell Davies Their patron until his death in March 2016 was Sir Peter Maxwell Davies. Davies was earlier associated with the Fires of London, a group which disbanded in 1987. The Fires formed in the 1960s to play Arnold Schoenberg's '' Pierrot lunaire'' (1912) and new works with a similar scoring.
