Anna-Katharina Messmer
Anna-Katharina Meßmer (born 1983) is a German activist and sociologist. Her work focuses on digitization, politics, social media, hate in the net, biopolitics, feminism and social politics. She became known for her contribution to the #about action and the open letter to the Federal President Joachim Gauck. Life In 2008–2009, she advised the SPD party executive and Gesine Schwan. In early 2013, she was a co-initiator of the #about Action, in which many people shared sexist experiences on Twitter. The hashtag was also honored as the first hashtag in 2013 with the Grimme Online Award. On March 3, 2013, Messmer published with six other women an open letter to German President Joachim Gauck, in which they criticized Gauck's reaction to #aufschrei. He was accused, among others, of "lack of sensitivity to women who have experienced sexism". Joachim Gauck
Joachim Wilhelm Gauck (; born 24 January 1940) is a German politician who served as President of Germany from 2012 to 2017. A former Lutheran pastor, he came to prominence as an anti-communist civil rights activist in East Germany. During the Peaceful Revolution in 1989, Gauck was a of the New Forum opposition movement in East Germany, which contributed to the downfall of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) and later with two other movements formed the electoral list Alliance 90, . In 1990, he was a member of the only freely elected East German People's Chamber in the Alliance 90/The Greens, / faction. Following German reunification, he was elected as a member of the Bundestag by the People's Chamber in 1990 but resigned after a single day having been chosen by the Bundestag to be the first Federal Commissioner for the Stasi Records. Gesine Schwan
Gesine Schwan (née ''Schneider'', 22 May 1943) is a German political science professor and member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany. The party has nominated her twice as a candidate for the federal presidential elections. On 23 May 2004, she was defeated by the Christian Democrat Horst Köhler. On 23 May 2009, Köhler beat her again to win his second term. Personal life Born in Berlin on 22 May 1943, Schwan was baptized in the Roman Catholic faith as the daughter of ''Oberschulrat'' (Senior School Inspector) Hans R. Schneider. During the Third Reich dictatorship her parents were members of the passive resistance, offering protection to a Jewish girl by hiding her.
