Ann Rankin
Ann Rankin is a former netball player who played on six occasions for the New Zealand national netball team, being part of the team that won the 1967 World Netball Championships. Career Rankin (née Boelee) was born on 1 December 1940. She played her early netball with Canterbury before being selected for the Silver Ferns, the national netball team, in 1967. Coached by Taini Jamison and with Judy Blair as captain, New Zealand won its first world cup at the 1967 world championships, which were held in Perth, Western Australia. The team won all seven of its matches, with the first, against South Africa, being Rankin's debut as a Silver Fern. In the tournament, the gold medal was secured with a 40–34 victory over Australia, the main rivals. Rankin was the 38th person to have been selected for the team and she played in the centre (C) position. The Netball World Cup is a quadrennial international netball world championship organised by World Netball, inaugurated in 1963 World Netball Championships, 1963. Taini Jamison
Taini Maremare Jamison (; 23 February 1928 – 28 April 2023) was a New Zealand netball coach and administrator. She coached the New Zealand national team to its first world title at the 1967 World Netball Championships. The Taini Jamison Trophy, contested between New Zealand and visiting international teams other than Australia, is named in her honour. Early life and family Jamison was born Taini Maremare Royal in Rotorua on 23 February 1928. Her father, Te Rangiātaahua Kiniwē Royal, was of Ngāti Raukawa and Ngāti Tamaterā descent, and her mother, Irihapeti Te Puhi-o-Rākaiora Taiaroa, was from Ngāi Tahu. Her father worked for the Māori Land Court and was often away from home carrying out surveys. The family briefly moved to Ruatoki in the eastern Bay of Plenty because of his job. Judy Blair (born December 29, 1948) is an American musician, singer, piano and Hammond B3 organ player, a composer of jazz, blues, rhythm & blues and boogie music. She is a Hammond organ virtuoso whose musical career began in the United States in the 1960s and continues in France where she has lived since 1994. She has recorded four solo albums. New Zealand Sports Hall Of Fame
The New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame is an organisation commemorating New Zealand's greatest sporting triumphs. It was inaugurated as part of the New Zealand sesquicentenary celebrations in 1990. Some 160 members have been inducted into the hall of fame since its inception representing a wide variety of sports. Inductions are held regularly every second year. Since 1999, it has been located in Dunedin, in the city's railway station building, where a museum is sited displaying mementos of New Zealand's sporting achievements. Prior to this time the Hall of Fame was based in Wellington. Sports writer Joseph Romanos was the chief executive of the Hall of Fame from 1995 to 1998. From 1998 until shortly before his death in August 2023 the chief executive was sports writer Ron Palenski.
