Ann Graves
Ann Graves is an Irish Sinn Féin politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin Fingal East constituency since the 2024 general election. Originally from Drumcondra, Graves has lived in Swords since the early 1990s. She has three children and one grandchild. Before entering politics, she worked as a shop steward for the SIPTU trade union in the education sector. Graves began her political involvement in Fingal by supporting the campaign of Louise O'Reilly, a Sinn Féin TD for the former five-seat Fingal constituency. Graves was co-opted onto Fingal County Council in 2018 and subsequently elected at the 2019 local elections. She was an unsuccessful candidate at the 2019 Dublin Fingal by-election. A Teachta Dála ( ; ; plural ), abbreviated as TD (plural ''TDanna'' in Irish language, Irish, TDs in English), is a member of Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas, the parliament of Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The official English translation of the term is "Dáil Deputy". An equivalent position would be a Member of parliament, Member of Parliament (MP) in the UK or Member of Congress in the USA. 2024 Irish Local Elections
The 2024 Irish local elections were held in all local authorities in Ireland on Friday, 7 June 2024. European Parliament elections were held on the same day. It also included the 2024 Limerick mayoral election, for the first directly elected mayor in Ireland. A by-election was held in the Dáil Éireann Dublin Fingal constituency in Ireland on Friday, 29 November 2019, to fill the vacancy left by the election of Independents 4 Change TD Clare Daly to the European Parliament. It was held on the same day as three other by-elections in Cork North-Central, Dublin Mid-West and Wexford. The Electoral (Amendment) Act 2011 stipulates that a by-election in Ireland must be held within six months of a vacancy occurring. The by-election writ was moved in the Dáil on 7 November 2019. The 2019 Irish local elections were held in all local authorities in Ireland on Friday, 24 May 2019, on the same day as the 2019 European Parliament election and a referendum easing restrictions on divorce.
