Anija Commune
Anija Parish ( et, Anija vald) is a rural municipality in Harju County, Estonia, consisting of 33 settlements. The parish has a population of 6274 and covers an area of . The administrative centre of the municipality is Kehra. The municipality also has an office in the borough of Aegviidu. Anija Parish is bordered by Kuusalu, Jõelähtme, Raasiku, Kose parishes in Harju County, Järva parish in Järva County and Tapa Parish in Lääne-Viru County. History Anija Village ''(Hangægus)'' was first mentioned in the Danish Census Book in 1241. Anija Manor, the namesake of Anija Parish, was first mentioned in 1482. Anija Parish was first created in the 19th century as part of the bigger, now arhaic Harju-Jaani Parish. In 1939, Anija Parish ceded Aavere, Pillapalu and gained Alavere Parish, Paasiku, and parts of Kiviloo. In 1945, Anija, Kehra and Pikva Rural Councils were created on the lands of Anija Parish. Anija (german: Hanniecken) is a village in Anija Parish, Harju County in northern Estonia. It has a population of 128 (as of 1 January 2010). Kehra Village
Kehra (german: Kedder) is a village in Anija Parish, Harju County, Estonia, just north of the town of Kehra. The village is situated on the left bank of the Jägala river. As of August 1, 2020, the village had a population of 29. Matsi dendrarium is located in the village. The dendrarium is established in 1965 by O. Shmeidt. As of about 2010s, there are over 270 species (over 360 taxons) of trees and shrubs. Etymology Kehra village was first mentioned in the Danish Census Book as ''Ketheræ'' in 1241''.'' Kaunissaare
Kaunissaare is a village in Anija Parish, Harju County, Estonia, south and south-east of the town of Kehra, situated around the Kaunissaare reservoir, on the banks of the Jägala river. As of August 1, 2020, the village had a population of 89. History Kaunissaare manor () was first mentioned in 1326 but it disappeared in the following centuries. The manor's mill is known to have been operating until the manor was re-established in 1815 as a half-manor. The manor's main building burnt down in 1945. Several other buildings that belonged to the manor complex were destroyed and flooded in the beginning of 1980's, when the reservoir was being built on the Jägala river. Alavere, Harju County
Alavere is a village in Anija Parish, Harju County in northern Estonia. The population was 345 in 2019. History Alavere was first mentioned in 1241 in the '' Liber Census Daniæ,'' during the reign of King Valdemar II of Denmark, as ''Hauaueeræ''. The village center of present-day was built up around a manor house, dating from the 1620s. The Allafer Manor () of the former passed between the hands of several families throughout the centuries, notably the Baltic German Löwensterns in the 18th century and the Ungern-Sternbergs in the 19th century. The main building of the mansion, built by Baron Gregor von Ungern-Sternberg in 1852, was heavily damaged by local peasants during the 1905 Revolution but was rebuilt. The last individual owner of nobility was Mary von der Pahlen, who acquired it in 1907. During the Estonian Land Reform in 1919, the manor's lands were nationalized. Kehra is a town in Anija Parish, Harju County, Estonia, most known for its pulp and paper mill. The town is situated on the banks of the Jägala river, and has a station on the Tallinn-Narva railway. As of January 1, 2021, the town had a population of 2635. Etymology Kehra village, the town's namesake, was first mentioned in the Danish Census Book as ''Ketheræ'' in 1241''.'' Before 1688, the village had also been referred to as ''Kecere, Kecnere, Kedere, Kederikull, Kedder, Keyher, Kether, Kädder(e)'' and ''Keddar''.
