Aniar
Aniar (; meaning "From the west") is a restaurant in Galway, Ireland. It is a fine dining restaurant that is awarded one Michelin star in 2013 and retained that rating until present. The head chef to win the Michelin star was Enda McEvoy. He left in 2013 and Ultan Cooke took over. He retained the star for 2014. The owner Jp McMahon took over the kitchen upon Cooke's departure in June 2015. He retained the star that year. Enda McEvoy
Enda McEvoy (born 1977 in Virginia, County Cavan) is an Irish Michelin star winning head chef with restaurant Loam in Galway. Background McEvoy was born and raised in Virginia, County Cavan, where his parents had a supermarket. He had his first kitchen job in Germany at age 17, as kitchen porter. Later he returned to Ireland and studied English and Sociology at NUI Maynooth. Eventually, he decided to make cooking his career. As most chefs, McEvoy travelled wide and far to learn and train and he worked in Spain, Germany and the United Kingdom before returning to Galway. Ultan Cooke
Ultan Cooke (Galway, County Galway) is an Irish head chef. He was formally employed at restaurant Aniar in Galway where he was awarded a Michelin star. Cooke studied philosophy and archaeology at the National University of Ireland, Galway. He started his culinary training in Galway. He later moved to London where he worked for John Torode's Smiths of Smithfield, ending up as head chef. The West is a strategic planning area within the Northern and Western Region in Ireland. It is a NUTS Level III statistical region of Ireland (coded IE042) under the Eurostat classification.
