Andy Angwin
Lawrence Andrew Angwin (4 September 1918 – 14 July 2002) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A wingman, Angwin played with Port Melbourne in the Victorian Football Association before joining Hawthorn; he was the first player to cross from the VFA to the VFL without a clearance after the competitions ended their reciprocal permit agreement in 1938, and as a result he was suspended from playing in the VFA. However, this did not affect his ability to play in the VFL, and he won Hawthorn's best and fairest award in 1940 and finished runner up in the following two seasons. Helen Angwin (born c. 1931) is an Australian former tennis player who was active in the first half of the 1950s. Career In 1952 she was runner-up in the singles event of the Australian Championship, losing the final in straight sets to compatriot Thelma Coyne Long. In the semifinal she had defeated first-seeded and reigning champion Nancye Wynne Bolton. In the doubles event she reached the semifinal in 1953 together with Gwen Thiele. In total she participated in five editions of the Australian Championships between 1949 and 1954. In January 1952 Angwin won the singles title at the South Australian Championships in Adelaide, defeating Gwen Thiele in the final in three sets. She lost the final of the 1954 edition in three sets to Jenny Staley. In September 1954 she announced her retirement from tennis due to her upcoming marriage. Maria Louisa Angwin
Maria Louisa Angwin (September 21, 1849 – April 25, 1898) was a Canadian physician. She was the first woman licensed to practice medicine in Nova Scotia. Life Angwin was born on 21 September 1849 in Blackhead, Conception Bay, Newfoundland. She was the daughter of Louisa Emma Gill and Reverend Thomas Angwin, a Methodist minister. Her family moved to Nova Scotia in 1865. She was educated at the lady's academy of Mount Allison Wesleyan Academy, receiving a liberal arts degree in 1869. She attended the normal school in Truro and taught school for five years in Dartmouth to finance her further studies. Angwin received an MD from the Woman’s Medical College in New York state in 1882. She interned at the New England Hospital for Women and Children in Boston. She continued her studies at the Royal Free Hospital in London. William Angwin
William Charles Angwin (8 May 1863 – 9 June 1944) was an Australian politician who was Deputy Premier of Western Australia from 1924 until 1927, and Agent-General for Western Australia in London from 1927 until 1933. Born in Cornwall, England, he worked as a carpenter and builder before moving to Australia. He was a founding member of the East Fremantle Municipal Council and a member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly for the Labor Party from 1904 until 1927, representing the seats of East Fremantle and North-East Fremantle. Angwin is a census-designated place (CDP) in Napa County, California, best known as the site of Pacific Union College. It is part of the northern San Francisco Bay Area. History The town of Angwin is named for Edwin Angwin (1841–1919), a native of St. Agnes, Cornwall, who in 1875 purchased a parcel within the Rancho La Jota on Howell Mountain and established the Angwin Resort.
