Angri
Angri is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Salerno, Campania, southern Italy. It is around northwest of the town of Salerno. History The Byzantine general Narses defeated Teias, the last king of the Goths, nearby in AD 553. In the 19th century, the city had a population of around 10,000 and its hinterland produced large quantities of grapes, tobacco, and cotton. Angri was the native town of Gabriele Capone and Teresina Raiola, who emigrated to the United States and gave birth to Al Capone, a prominent gangster. Angri was also the hometown of Capone's successor of the Chicago Outfit, Frank Nitti, and of the Roman Catholic priest, Blessed Alfonso Maria Fusco, whose feast is February 6. Alfonso Maria Fusco
Alfonso Maria Fusco (23 March 1839 – 6 February 1910) was a Roman Catholic priest and the founder of the Sisters of Saint John the Baptist – also known as the Baptistine Sisters. Their mission was to evangelize and educate as well as to promote the faith amongst adolescents with a particular emphasis on those who were poor or abandoned. He received beatification from Pope John Paul II in 2001 and Pope Francis approved his canonization on 26 April 2016 – a date was determined on 20 June 2016 for sainthood and it was celebrated on 16 October 2016. Life Alfonso Maria Fusco was born as the first of five children to Aniello Fusco (a farmer) and Giuseppina Schianova at Angri in Salerno on 23 March 1839; his parents married on 31 January 1834. Agro Nocerino Sarnese
The Agro Nocerino Sarnese is a geographical region of the Province of Salerno, in Campania in southern Italy; the river Sarno flows through it. It is a low-lying area bounded to the south by the Monti Lattari, to the east and north-east by the Monti Picentini and to the west by the plain of Vesuvius. It consists of sixteen comuni: Angri, Bracigliano, Castel San Giorgio, Corbara, Nocera Inferiore, Nocera Superiore, Pagani, Roccapiemonte, San Marzano sul Sarno, San Valentino Torio, Santa Maria la Carità, Sant'Antonio Abate, Sant'Egidio del Monte Albino, Sarno, Scafati and Siano. Frank Nitti
Frank Ralph Nitto (born Francesco Raffaele Nitto, ; January 27, 1886 – March 19, 1943), known as Frank Nitti, was an Italian-American organized crime figure based in Chicago. The first cousin and bodyguard of Al Capone, Nitti was in charge of all money flowing through the operation. Nitti later succeeded Capone as acting boss of the Chicago Outfit. Early life and prohibition Nitti was born Francesco Raffaele Nitto on January 27, 1886, in the small town of Angri, province of Salerno, Campania, Italy. Alphonse Gabriel Capone (; January 17, 1899 – January 25, 1947), sometimes known by the nickname "Scarface", was an American gangster and businessman who attained notoriety during the Prohibition era as the co-founder and boss of the Chicago Outfit. His seven-year reign as a crime boss ended when he went to prison at the age of 33. Capone was born in New York City in 1899 to Italian immigrants. He joined the Five Points Gang as a teenager and became a bouncer in organized crime premises such as brothels. Autostrada A3 (Italy)
The Autostrada A3 is a motorway in Southern Italy, which runs from Naples to Salerno, in the region Campania. Until 2017 the route was much longer, going after Salerno further south until Reggio Calabria; on this year, this section became part of the new A2 motorway and of its two spur routes. Overview Due to sections not being originally constructed to anywhere near Motorway standard and to the notoriously poor conditions of maintenance, and also to the difficult terrain along some of the route, the motorway has been often taken as a symbol of the backwardness and economical problems of southern Italy. Scafati () is a city and ''comune'' in the province of Salerno, in the Campania region of southern Italy. Geography Scafati is situated on the river Sarno. Under the bridge over the river into the village, the Sarno divides into a primary and two secondary branches. The town is bordered by Angri, Boscoreale, Poggiomarino, Pompei, San Marzano sul Sarno, San Valentino Torio, Sant'Antonio Abate and Santa Maria la Carità.
