Angelo Costanzo
Angelo Francesco Antonio Costanzo (born 9 May 1976 in Adelaide) is a retired Australian soccer player. He was voted into the Adelaide United Team of the Decade. He is currently married to his wife, Helen and is the father of his two children; Domenic and Liliana. Club career In 1994 at 18 years of age he won the SA player of the year award at Salisbury United, and was invited to join Adelaide City on an off-season tour of Vietnam. In 1995/96, his first season in the national league, he played alongside two of Australia's most credentialed defenders in Alex Tobin and Milan Ivanovic, and established a regular starting position as Adelaide City reached the preliminary final. 2002 OFC Nations Cup
The 2002 OFC Nations Cup took place in New Zealand, between 5 and 14 July 2002. The competition was divided into two group stages, with a knockout tournament at the end. Before the tournament, 11 of the nations were seeded according to their 2001 FIFA ranking, while New Caledonia was placed last by default, as it was not a FIFA member. The six lowest-ranked teams took part in the first stage of qualifying, in which the two highest placed teams at the end of the round-robin stage gained qualification to the second group stage, made up of the six ''highest''-ranked teams. The remaining eight teams were then split into two groups of four, with the top two nations from each group progressing to the knockout stage. Australia failed to defend the title they won in 2000. The AFC Champions League Elite (abbreviated as the ACL Elite) is an annual continental club association football, football competition organised by the Asian Football Confederation, and contested by Asia's List of top-division football clubs in AFC countries, top-division football clubs. The FIFA Club World Cup (FIFA CWC) is an international men's association football competition organised by the ''Fédération Internationale de Football Association'' (FIFA), the sport's global sports governing body, governing body. A-League
A-League Men, also known as the Isuzu UTE A-League for sponsorship reasons, is a professional soccer league in Australia and New Zealand and the highest level of the Australian soccer league system. Established in 2004 as the A-League by the Australian Soccer Association (ASA) as a successor to the National Soccer League (NSL), competition commenced in August 2005. Administered by Australian Professional Leagues (APL), it is contested by thirteen teams; eleven based in Australia with two in New Zealand. 2009–10 A-League
The 2009–10 A-League was the 33rd season of top-flight soccer in Australia, and the fifth season of the A-League competition since its establishment in 2004. The season marked the addition of two new teams from Queensland. Gold Coast United FC and the North Queensland Fury FC made their A-League debuts at the start of the season. Because of this, Queensland Roar were renamed to Brisbane Roar, as they were no longer the only A-League club from Queensland. With the inception of the two new clubs, many club transfers took place both within Australia and New Zealand, and around the world. 2008–09 A-League
The 2008–09 A-League was the 32nd season of top-flight soccer in Australia, and the fourth season of the A-League competition since its establishment in 2004. Two new clubs, North Queensland Thunder and Gold Coast Galaxy had received tentative licences from the FFA but these were revoked for the 2008–09 season on 12 March 2008. Expansion plans are on hold until the 2009–10 season. Based on their 2007–08 performances, the Central Coast Mariners and the Newcastle Jets competed in the 2009 AFC Champions League for the first time. The 2006–07 A-League was the 30th season of top-flight soccer in Australia, and the second season of the A-League since its establishment the previous season. Football Federation Australia hoped to build on the success of the first season and on the interest generated by the Socceroos competing in the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Fox Sports had signed a A$120 million deal over 7 years for the exclusive broadcast rights of the A-League, AFC Champions League, and national team matches (excluding matches played in the World Cup finals). The 2005–06 A-League was the 29th season of top-flight soccer in Australia, and the inaugural season of the A-League. After over 12 months without a national professional club competition since the close of the 2003–04 National Soccer League season, the first match in the A-League was played on 26 August 2005. The competition was made up of a triple round robin league stage before a championship playoff featuring the top four teams. Of the eight participants, four came from the National Soccer League (1977–2004): Perth Glory (established 1995), New Zealand Knights (1999), Newcastle Jets (2000) and Adelaide United (2003). Adelaide United Football Club is a professional men's soccer club located in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. The club was one of the eight founding members of the A-League Men and have competed in it concurrently since its formation, under licence from the Australian Professional Leagues. Established in 2003, the club was formed to replace Adelaide City and West Adelaide in the final season of the National Soccer League, and has remained the only professional club from South Australia. Milan Ivanović (Australian Footballer)
Milan Ivanović (Serbian Cyrillic: Милан Ивановић, ; born 21 December 1960) is a former soccer player. Born in Yugoslavia, he played for the Australia national team. Club career Ivanović started his career with a local club Crvenka. After stints with Rudar Kostolac and OFK Belgrade, he joined Red Star Belgrade in 1985. Ivanović played in a 1988 European Cup encounter against A.C. Milan. He emigrated to Australia and on arrival in 1989 he joined Adelaide City in the National Soccer League. Nicknamed "The Doctor" for his ability to cut out the opposition's attacks and launch into an incisive midfield run, the classy, composed sweeper formed a formidable partnership with Alex Tobin that became the mainstay of the Adelaide City and Socceroo defence.
