Roger Angell
Roger Angell (September 19, 1920 – May 20, 2022) was an American essayist known for his writing on sports, especially baseball. The only writer ever elected into both the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the Baseball Writers' Association of America, he was a regular contributor to ''The New Yorker'' and was its chief fiction editor for many years. He wrote numerous works of fiction, non-fiction, and criticism, and for many years wrote an annual Christmas poem for ''The New Yorker''. Charles Austen Angell (14 December 1933 – 12 March 2021) was a renowned Australian and American physical chemist known for his prolific and highly cited research on the chemistry and physics of glasses and glass-forming liquids. He was internationally recognized as a luminary in the fields of glasses, liquids, water and ionic liquids. His best known contribution is probably the development of the fragility concept and the "strong– fragile" classification of viscous liquids in general. Sir Ralph Norman Angell (26 December 1872 – 7 October 1967) was an English Nobel Peace Prize winner. He was a lecturer, journalist, author and Member of Parliament for the Labour Party. Marcia Angell (; born April 20, 1939) is an American physician, author, and the first woman to serve as editor-in-chief of the ''New England Journal of Medicine''. She is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. Lisa Angell (born Virginie Vetrano, 21 September 1968 in Paris) is a French singer who represented France in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song " N'oubliez pas". Career Early beginnings From the ages of 11 to 14, Angell competed in several radio talent shows during the Nice Carnvial. She was declared the winner for four consecutive years. At the age of 15, she began classical singing training at the Conservatory of Nice but she quit shortly after. However she continued singing by performing in piano bars in the Côte d'Azur. Angell settled in Paris in 2001 where she met Didier Barbelivien, the writer of her song "Des années après". David Lawrence Angell (April 10, 1946 – September 11, 2001) was an American screenwriter and television producer. He won multiple Emmy Awards as the creator and executive producer of the ''Cheers'' spin-off shows ''Wings'' and ''Frasier'' with Peter Casey and David Lee. Henrik August Angell (22 August 1861 – 26 January 1922) was a Norwegian military officer, sportsman, and writer. He was a ski pioneer and the first Norwegian delegate to the International Olympic Committee. Early life Henrik Angell was born at Luster in Sogn og Fjordane and grew up in Bergen, Norway. Helen Cordelia Angell, née Coleman (1847 – 1884) was an English watercolour painter. Biography Angell was the fifth daughter of the twelve children of Henrietta Dendy and William Thomas Coleman, a physician. She was schooled at home. Along with her sister, pottery artist Rose Rebecca Coleman, she learned painting and drawing from their older brother William Stephen Coleman, who kept an art pottery studio in South Kensington. Her early watercolor paintings were first exhibited in the Dudley Gallery in London in 1864. She married Thomas William Angell on 15 October 1874. He was a postmaster and an amateur artist. Angell was a member of both the Royal Watercolour Society and the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, who awarded her a membership in 1875.
