Angelique (song)
Denmark was represented by Dario Campeotto, with the song "Angelique", at the 1961 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 18 March in Cannes, France. "Angelique" was chosen as the Danish entry at the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix on 19 February. Before Eurovision Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 1961 The DMGP was held at the Fredericia Theatre in Fredericia, hosted by Sejr Volmer-Sørensen. Seven songs took part, with the winner chosen by a 10-member jury who each had 3 points to award. They could divide the points however they wished (i.e. they could award 1 point to three different songs, 1 and 2 points to two songs, or all 3 points to one song). Dario Campeotto
Dario Campeotto (born 1 February 1939) is a Danish-Italian singer, actor, and entertainer. He was born in Frederiksberg, Copenhagen to Italian parents, Emma and Ernesto Campeotto. He started performing at the age of ten, but his breakthrough was a victory in the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix in 1961 with the song " Angelique", which went on to finish fifth in the Eurovision Song Contest. Following ''Angelique'', Dario Campeotto released a number of records, starred in theatrical play, operettas, revues, and movies. Otto Brandenburg
Otto Herman Max Brandenburg (4 September 1934 – 1 March 2007) was a Danish musician, singer and actor. Career Music and Theatre He debuted in 1955 in the ensemble Four Jacks, but quickly became a soloist producing Danish rock. He then adapted his pop songs to folk music and jazz and became a popular actor. Brandenburg released records in Sweden and Germany under the name "Ole Brandenburg". In 1960, he unsuccessfully participated in the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix with the song "To Lys På Et Bord" (two lights on one board). In 1969, he began a new musical direction, setting his own lyrics to an American melody in the Christmas song "Søren Banjomus." In the 1970s he often worked with actress Vivi Bak. In the 1980s he collaborated with songwriters Halfdan Rasmussen and Evert Taube. Film Brandenburg won a Bodil award in 1978 for his role in ' and again in 1982 for "Gummi Tarzan". Grethe Sønck (16 July 1929 – 12 February 2010) was a Danish actress and singer. She was born as Grethe Ingeborg Nielsen Hald in Hjerm, near Struer, but she changed her surname to Sønck in 1968. In 1946, she won a talent contest, and in 1947, she became a singer at the Restaurant Sommerlyst at Dyrehavsbakken. The Eurovision Song Contest 1961 was the 6th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. Once again, the contest was held in the French seaside city of Cannes, having also hosted the . Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Radiodiffusion-Télévision Française (RTF), the contest was again held at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès on Saturday 18 March 1961, becoming the first contest to take place on a Saturday evening, a tradition that has continued ever since (with the exception of 1962). Raquel Rastenni
Raquel Rastenni (21 August 1915 – 17 August 1998), born Anna Rachel Rastén, was a popular Danish- Russian singer. She was born in Copenhagen, and grew up in an apartment in the poor part of the city. Her Jewish parents immigrated to Denmark from Russia at the start of the 20th century. Her father was a tailor, and her mother was a seamstress. She started her career as a dancer in the Helsingør Revue in 1936. She debuted as a singer in 1938 by being broadcast on radio. She sang with various orchestras through the early 1940s and in 1940 formed her own swing trio. That same year her first record was released. She also toured during these years in Sweden. As a Jew, she fled Denmark in October 1943 along with her family, as the country had come under Nazi occupation. She spent the rest of the war years in Sweden where she continued having great success with her career, performing with orchestras and in cabarets and varieties.
