Angelica Jimenez
Angelica M. Jimenez (born March 19, 1965) is an American Democratic Party politician, who has been serving in the New Jersey General Assembly since 2012, where she represents the 32nd Legislative District. Jimenez has been the Deputy Speaker in the General Assembly since 2020. She has served on the West New York Housing Corporation Board since 2010 and was Vice Chair of the West New York Housing Authority, from 2008 to 2010. Jimenez has served on the New Jersey Democratic State Committee since 2008 and was Vice President of the Board of Education of the West New York School District from 2009 until 2011. New Jersey's 32nd Legislative District is one of 40 districts that make up the map for the New Jersey Legislature. It encompasses the Bergen County boroughs of Edgewater and Fairview and the Hudson County municipalities of East Newark, Guttenberg, Harrison, Kearny, North Bergen, Secaucus, and West New York. Demographic information As of the 2020 United States census, the district had a population of 243,875, of whom 195,978 (80.4%) were of voting age. The racial makeup of the district was 77,997 (32.0%) White, 8,905 (3.7%) African American, 3,808 (1.6%) Native American, 29,614 (12.1%) Asian, 119 (0.0%) Pacific Islander, 75,874 (31.1%) from some other race, and 47,558 (19.5%) from two or more races. Nicholas Sacco
Nicholas J. Sacco (born November 17, 1946) is an American Democratic Party politician, who has been serving in the New Jersey State Senate since 1994, where he represents the 32nd Legislative District. Sacco serves in the Senate as the chairman of the Transportation Committee, and is also a member of the Law and Public Safety and Veterans' Affairs Committee. He concurrently serves as mayor of North Bergen as he is allowed to hold two offices under a grandfather clause in a bill that prohibited dual office holding. Sacco announced on February 24, 2022 that he would not seek re-election for state senate. Personal life Sacco was born in Jersey City on November 17, 1946. The New Jersey Senate was established as the upper house of the New Jersey Legislature by the Constitution of 1844, replacing the Legislative Council. There are 40 legislative districts, representing districts with an average population of 232,225 (2020 figure). Each district has one senator and two members of the New Jersey General Assembly, the lower house of the legislature. Prior to the election in which they are chosen, senators must be a minimum of 30 years old and a resident of the state for four years to be eligible to serve in office. From 1844 until 1965 (when the ''Reynolds v. Sims'' US Supreme Court decision mandated all state legislators be elected from districts of roughly equal population), each county was an electoral district electing one senator.
