Angela Perez Flores is a Guamanian former First Lady of Guam. Early life In 1900, Flores was born in Guam. Career In 1960, when Joseph Flores was appointed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower as the Governor of Guam, Flores became the First Lady of Guam on July 9, 1960, until May 20, 1961. Personal life Flores' husband was Joseph Flores, a Guamanian newspaper publisher, founder of the Guam Daily News (Pacific Daily News), banker, co-founder of Guam Savings and Loan (present day BankPacific), and Governor of Guam. They had one child, Edward. Flores and her family lived in San Francisco, California. In 1947, Flores and her family moved back to Guam. Flores' grandson Philip J. Joseph Flores (Guamanian Politician)
Joseph F. Flores (August 12, 1900 – December 18, 1981) was a Guamanian newspaper publisher and politician. Flores was the fourth civilian appointed Governor of Guam, and was the first Chamorro to hold the office. He also founded the island's first locally owned newspaper, the '' Guam Daily News'' (later becoming the Pacific Daily News), which was the only local newspaper until 1966. He enjoyed success running many publications before being appointed Governor by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1960. As Governor, Flores pushed for increased self-governance in Guam, resigning in 1961. After his Governorship, Flores founded other businesses and became involved in numerous community organizations. Hagåtña, Guam
Hagåtña, formerly Agana or Agaña, is a coastal village and the capital of the United States territory of Guam. From the 18th through mid-20th century, it was Guam's population center, but today, it is the second smallest of the island's 19 villages in both area and population. However, it remains one of the island's major commercial districts in addition to being the seat of government. Etymology "Hagåt" (also romanized as ''haga, with a glottal stop instead of a syllable-final "t") means "blood" in the Chamorro language. Yona, Guam
Yona ( ) is a village in the United States territory of Guam. History Yona was historically a farming community but today is mostly residential. During World War II, the Japanese forced the indigenous Chamorros to march from camps in northern Guam to prison camps in Yona shortly before the Americans liberated the island. Japanese tanks in the area near the Segua River serve as reminders of the war. Today, the LeoPalace Resort is located in the Manenggon Hills.
