Anett Kontaveit
Anett Kontaveit (; born 24 December 1995) is an Estonian former professional tennis player. She was WTA rankings, ranked as high as world No. 2 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), which she first achieved on 6 June 2022 to become the highest-ranked Estonian tennis player in history. She also attained a career-high ranking of No. 95 in doubles on 2 March 2020. Kontaveit won six singles titles on the WTA Tour as well as eleven singles and five doubles titles on the International Tennis Federation, ITF Circuit. She produced her best performance at a Grand Slam (tennis)#Tournaments, major by reaching the quarterfinals at the 2020 Australian Open – Women's singles, 2020 Australian Open, and she also contested two WTA 1000 tournaments, WTA 1000 finals at the 2018 Wuhan Open – Singles, 2018 Wuhan Open and 2022 Qatar Total Open, 2022 Qatar Open. 2022 Wimbledon Championships
The 2022 Wimbledon Championships was a Grand Slam (tennis), Grand Slam tier tennis tournament that took place at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London, United Kingdom. Novak Djokovic successfully defended his gentlemen's singles title to claim his 21st Grand Slam (tennis)#Tournaments, major title, defeating Nick Kyrgios in the final. Ashleigh Barty was the reigning ladies' champion, but did not defend her title after retiring from professional tennis in March 2022. 2019 US Open – Women's Doubles
Elise Mertens and Aryna Sabalenka defeated Ashleigh Barty and Victoria Azarenka in the final, 7–5, 7–5, to win the women's doubles tennis title at the 2019 US Open. It was both players' first major doubles title. Barbora Strýcová retained the WTA no. 1 doubles ranking after the tournament. Kristina Mladenovic was also in contention for the top ranking at the start of the tournament. Barty and CoCo Vandeweghe were the defending champions, but chose not to participate together. Barty played alongside Azarenka and lost in the final. Vandeweghe teamed up with Bethanie Mattek-Sands, but lost in the first round to Magda Linette and Iga Świątek. Degenerative Disc Disease
Degenerative disc disease (DDD) is a medical condition typically brought on by the aging process in which there are anatomic changes and possibly a loss of function of one or more intervertebral discs of the vertebral column, spine. DDD can take place with or without symptoms, but is typically identified once symptoms arise. The root cause is thought to be loss of soluble proteins within the fluid contained in the disc with resultant reduction of the oncotic pressure, which in turn causes loss of fluid volume. WTA Finals
The WTA Finals (formerly known as the WTA Tour Championships or WTA Championships) is the season-ending championship of the WTA Tour. It is the most significant tennis event in the women's annual calendar after the four majors, as it features the top eight singles players and top eight doubles teams based on their results throughout the season. The eighth spot is reserved, if needed, for a player or team who won a major in the current year and is ranked from ninth to twentieth. The tournament predates the WTA Tour and started in 1972 as the championship tournament of the Tour's predecessor: the Virginia Slims Circuit. WTA 1000 Tournaments
The WTA 1000 tournaments are a category of tennis tournaments on the WTA Tour, governed by the Women's Tennis Association. The old WTA Premier tournaments, WTA Premier Mandatory and Premier 5 tournaments merged into a single highest tier implemented in the 2021 schedule reorganization. Until 2024, only four of the nine WTA 1000 tournaments were mandatory, when the category expanded to ten mandatory tournaments. When launched in 2021, the prize money for winning a WTA 1000 tournament was approximately $1,000,000. This has since risen to almost $9,000,000 at some tournaments as of 2024. The ranking points awarded to the winners of these tournaments are 1,000. This compares to 2,000 points for winning a Grand Slam (tennis), Grand Slam tournament ("major"), up to 1,500 points for winning the WTA Finals, 500 points for winning a WTA 500 tournament, and 250 for winning a WTA 250 tournament. The Grand Slam in tennis is the achievement of winning all four major championships in one discipline in a calendar year. In doubles, a Grand Slam may be achieved as a team or as an individual with different partners. Winning all four major championships consecutively but not within the same calendar year is referred to as a "non-calendar-year Grand Slam", while winning the four majors at any point during the course of a career is known as a "Career Grand Slam". The WTA Tour (also known as the Hologic WTA Tour for sponsorship reasons) is a worldwide top-tier tennis tour for women and organized by the Women's Tennis Association.
