Aneta, North Dakota
Aneta is a city in Nelson County, North Dakota, United States. The population was 234 at the 2020 census. Aneta was first settled in 1882 and incorporated as a city in 1893. History Aneta was first settled in 1882. It was named after ''An''na Ros''eta'' Mitchell, the first woman settler in the community. Because the Sheyenne River flows nearby, the town was nicknamed, "The Queen City of the Upper Sheyenne." In 1896, the Great Northern Railway extended a branch line 28 miles from Hope to Aneta and the city quickly became a boomtown. In 1893, Aneta incorporated as a city, which in North Dakota required a population of 500. At the time, its population was 512. Only 100 residents voted in the election – 59 for, 39 against, and two spoiled votes. A subsequent election for mayor (held in Thayer Hall) resulted in Mayor George F. Thayer. Aneta (, "General News and Telegraph Agency") was a Dutch news agency founded 1 April 1917 by Dominique Willem Berretty. It was the first news agency in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia), and a predecessor of the Antara news agency. In 1920, Aneta moved to a new building located on what is now Jalan Antara in Jakarta Jakarta (; , Betawi language, Betawi: ''Jakartè''), officially the Special Capital Region of Jakarta (; ''DKI Jakarta'') and formerly known as Batavia, Dutch East Indies, Batavia until 1949, is the capital and largest city of Indonesia and .... The facade of the building was remodeled into a more striking building with a clock tower in 1930. The building still stands but is in poor condition. By 1941 Aneta had become the semi-official news agency of the East Indies government. The agency's operations were restricted under Japanese occupation, and it eventually closed by 1946.
