Estevan
Estevan is the eighth-largest city in Saskatchewan, Canada. It is approximately north of the Canada–United States border. The Souris River runs by the city. The Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year is presented annually at Canada's Juno Awards to honour the best album of the year in the alternative rock and/or indie rock genres. Karen Ng
Karen Ng is a Canadian improvisational musician, teacher and event organizer based in Toronto, Ontario. Best known as a saxophonist, she is a multi-instrumentalist who has performed internationally with acts including Andy Shauf, Do Make Say Think and L CON. A former programmer and board member of Somewhere There, she is the co-founder of TONE Festival and joined the Guelph Jazz Festival in 2018 as the Assistant Artistic and General Director. Early life and education Ng was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. She began playing the guitar in Grade 6 and eventually learned to play the piano, flute, clarinet, and saxophone. Predominantly self-taught, Ng holds a BFA from York University. SOCAN Songwriting Prize
The SOCAN Songwriting Prize, formerly known as the ECHO Songwriting Prize, is an annual competition recognizing the best in Canadian emerging music, both anglophone and francophone. Established in 2006, the competition was designed to recognize some of the most innovative, creative and artistic songs created in the year preceding the award by emerging songwriters in Canada. Songs are selected by a competition panel composed of 10 music experts from the Canadian music scene, who each nominate two songs based on a set of criteria they believe are the best songs by emerging artists from the past year. The songs are narrowed down to a set of 10 finalists and announced publicly. Fans then vote for the winner over the course of two weeks in June. ''The Party'' is the fifth studio album by Canadian musician Andy Shauf. It was released on May 20, 2016 under Anti-. Background As its title suggests, ''The Party'' is a concept album set at a house party, consisting of a series of vignettes taking place over the course of a single night. Shauf has stated that he began the album by working on unrelated songs, but that about halfway through the process, he decided on the theme of a party. Although each song presents a different character, many of them have personal or autobiographical elements. The album was originally recorded and produced independently, with Shauf completing the album before meeting with any record labels. After presenting it to Anti-, however, he re-recorded and edited much of the music before releasing it.
