Andrés Ingi Jónsson
Andrés Ingi Jónsson (born 16 August 1979) is an Icelandic MP, who represented Reykjavík North as a member of the Pirate Party from 2017 to 2024. He was first elected to the Alþingi in 2016 as a member of the Left-Green Movement and again in 2017, later leaving the party in protest. He has an MA in War, Violence and Security from the University of Sussex and a BA in Philosophy from the University of Iceland. After his studies, he worked as a journalist and a committee secretary for the Constitutional Council. Political focus Andrés Ingi joined the Left-Green Movement during the 2009 Icelandic financial crisis protests and took a seat on the party's ticket for the 2009 elections. During the time of the 2009-2013 left-wing government, Andrés worked as the political advisor to both the Minister of Health and the Minister for the Environment. Reykjavík North (Althing Constituency)
Reykjavík North () is one of the six multi-member constituencies of the Althing, the national legislature of Iceland. The constituency was established in 2003 when the existing Reykjavík constituency was split into two. The constituency currently elects nine of the 63 members of the Althing using the open party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2024 parliamentary election it had 47,600 registered electors. History In March 1843 King Christian VIII of Denmark issued a royal decree converting the Althing into a consultative assembly. It consisted to 20 members popularly elected from single-member constituencies, one of which was Reykjavík. Parliamentary elections were held in Iceland on 29 October 2016. They were due to be held on or before 27 April 2017, but following the 2016 Icelandic anti-government protests, the ruling coalition announced that early elections would be held "in autumn". The Independence Party emerged as the largest in the Althing, winning 21 of the 63 seats; the Progressive Party, which had won the most seats in 2013, lost more than half its seats as it was overtaken by the Left-Green Movement and the Pirate Party.
