They were due to be held from 31 July – 9 August 2020, at the Japan National Stadium, Olympic Stadium in Tokyo, Japan. Serravalle is a ''castello'' in northern San Marino. With a population of 10,878 inhabitants (of which 2,000 are of foreign origin) and an area of 10.53 km2, it is not only the most densely populated municipality in San Marino, but it also contains its largest settlement (Dogana). The championships were part of the first European Championships with other events happening in the United Kingdom.
