Andrey Trefilov
Andrei Viktorovich Trefilov (); born 31 August 1969) is a Russian retired ice hockey goaltender and a sports agent. He played in the National Hockey League between 1992 and 1999 with the Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres, and Chicago Blackhawks. The rest of his career, which lasted from 1986 to 2006, was spent in the North American minor leagues and in Europe. Internationally Trefilov first played for the Soviet national team at the 1991 Men's Ice Hockey World Championships and 1991 Canada Cup, where he shared goal tending with Alexei Marjin. He also represented the Unified Team at the 1992 Winter Olympics, winning a gold medal, and then the Russian national team at the 1992, 1993 and 1996 World Championships, as well as the 1998 Winter Olympics, winning a silver. In ice hockey, the goaltender (commonly referred to as goalie or netminder) is the player responsible for preventing the hockey puck from entering their own team's net, thus preventing the opposing team from scoring. Detroit Vipers
The Detroit Vipers were a professional ice hockey team that competed in the International Hockey League (IHL). Originally founded in 1969 as the Salt Lake Golden Eagles in Salt Lake City, the team was purchased by Palace Sports & Entertainment and relocated to Auburn Hills, Michigan in 1994. The Deutsche Eishockey Liga (for sponsorship reasons called Penny (supermarket), PENNY Deutsche Eishockey Liga) (; English: ''German Ice Hockey League'') or DEL, is a professional ice hockey league in Germany and the highest division in German ice hockey. The Unified Team at the 1992 Winter Olympics () in Albertville was a joint team consisting of five of the fifteen former Soviet republics: Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Uzbekistan that made a decision to collaborate and created a united team. The Soviet Hockey Championship () was the highest level ice hockey league in the Soviet Union, running from 1946 to 1992. Before the 1940s the game of ice hockey was not cultivated in Russia, instead the more popular form of hockey was bandy. CIS National Ice Hockey Team
The CIS national ice hockey team was an ephemeral national ice hockey team that represented the Commonwealth of Independent States. Essentially the former Soviet team under a different name, the CIS team existed in the few months between the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the formation of new ice hockey federations for the former Soviet states, now independent countries. Most notably, the team competed at the 1992 Winter Olympics as part of the Unified Team, winning the gold medal. However, the International Ice Hockey Federation would later attribute this gold medal to Russia as the successor state. The International Olympic Committee does not attribute that medal to Russia. 1991 Canada Cup
The 1991 Labatt Canada Cup was a professional international ice hockey tournament played in August and September 1991. The finals took place in Montreal on September 14 and Hamilton on September 16, and were won by Canada. The Canadians defeated the USA in a two-game sweep, to secure the fifth and final Canada Cup. The tournament was replaced by the World Cup of Hockey in 1996. Of the five Canada Cup tournaments, this is the only one in which a team went undefeated; Canada compiled a record of six wins and two ties in eight games. The first tie was a stunning 2–2 result with underdog Finland on the opening day of the tournament, who got spectacular goaltending from Markus Ketterer.
