Kenneth Macaulay (politician)
Kenneth Macaulay (1812 – 29 July 1867) was an English Conservative Party politician. He sat in the House of Commons between 1852 and 1865. Macaulay was born on 30 September 1812 in Rothley, Leicestershire, England, the son of Rev. Aulay Macaulay, the vicar of Rothley. He was educated at Jesus College, Cambridge, graduating B.A. in 1835. He was a Cambridge Apostle; in 1843, he married Harriet Woollcombe, daughter of W. Woollcombe. He was elected as a Member of Parliament for Cambridge at the 1852 general election, but the a petition was lodged and the election was declared void on 1 March 1853. A Royal Commission was established, and the writ of election was suspended until 1854. Macaulay contested the Cambridge again at the 1857 general election, and regained his seat, holding it until he stood down at the 1865 general election. Robert Adair, 1st Baron Waveney
Robert Alexander Shafto Adair, 1st Baron Waveney (25 August 1811 – 15 February 1886) was a British Liberal Party politician who served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Cambridge for 8 of the years from 1847 to 1857. Life Born in Ballymena, County Antrim, Ireland, he was the older of the two sons of Sir Robert Shafto Adair, 1st Baronet, and his first wife Elizabeth Maria Strode. He married Theodosia Meade in 1836; they had no children. Adair first stood for election to Parliament in April 1843, when he was the runner-up at a by-election for the Eastern division of Suffolk. He was unsuccessful again at a by-election for the borough of Cambridge in July 1845,Craig, op. cit., pages 76–77 but at the 1847 general election he was elected as one of Cambridge's two MPs. Sir Francis Sharp Powell, 1st Baronet (29 June 1827 – 24 December 1911) was an English Conservative politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1863 and 1910. Powell was the son of the Rev. Benjamin Powell of Wigan and his wife Anne Wade, daughter of the Rev. T. Wade. He was educated at Uppingham School, Sedbergh School and St John's College, Cambridge He was called to the bar at Inner Temple in 1853, and practised on the Northern Circuit. He was a J.P. for Lancashire and the West Riding of Yorkshire. In the 1857 general election Powell was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Wigan, but was not re-elected in 1859. In the 1857 United Kingdom general election, the Whigs, led by Lord Palmerston, won a majority in the House of Commons as the Conservative vote fell significantly. The election had been provoked by a vote of censure in Palmerston's government over his approach to the ''Arrow'' affair which led to the Second Opium War.
