Andrew "Andy" Lavern Smith (1960 – December 18, 1998) was an American serial killer who committed four murders and one attempted murder along Interstate 85 in South Carolina between 1980 and 1983. Anderson is a city in and the county seat of Anderson County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 28,106 at the 2020 census, making it the 16th-most populous city in South Carolina. In the United States, capital punishment (also known as the death penalty) is a legal penalty in 27 states (of which two, Oregon and Wyoming, do not currently have any inmates sentenced to death), throughout the country at the federal level, and in American Samoa. It is also a legal penalty for some military offenses. Capital punishment has been abolished in the other 23 states and in the federal capital, Washington, D.C. The following is a list of people executed by the U.S. state of South Carolina since capital punishment was resumed in the United States in 1976. Since the 1976 U.S. Supreme Court decision of ''Gregg v. Georgia'', a total of 49 people have been executed in South Carolina. All of the people executed were convicted of murder. Of the 49 people executed, 40 were executed via lethal injection, 7 via electrocution, and 2 via firing squad. Revolver
A revolver is a repeating handgun with at least one barrel and a revolving cylinder containing multiple chambers (each holding a single cartridge) for firing. Because most revolver models hold six cartridges before needing to be reloaded, revolvers are commonly called six shooters or sixguns. Due to their rotating cylinder mechanism, they may also be called wheel guns. Before firing, cocking the revolver's hammer partially rotates the cylinder, indexing one of the cylinder chambers into alignment with the barrel, allowing the bullet to be fired through the bore.
