Andrew Haben
Andrew Haben (December 23, 1834January 18, 1908) was a German-American immigrant, businessman, Democratic politician, and Wisconsin pioneer. He was the 19th and 24th mayor of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and represented Winnebago County in the Wisconsin State Senate and Assembly. He was also an unsuccessful candidate for U.S. Congress. Biography Born in the Rhine Province, in the Kingdom of Prussia, Haben emigrated with his parents to the United States in 1837 and settled in Dansville, New York. In 1855, Haben moved to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and worked as a merchant tailor. He also became active in the real estate trade in Oshkosh. Haben became active with the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, and was elected mayor of Oshkosh in 1876 and 1877. In 1878, he was elected to the Wisconsin State Senate from the 19th State Senate district. At the time, the district comprised all of Winnebago County. Wisconsin's 19th State Senate District
The 19th Senate district of Wisconsin is one of 33 districts in the Wisconsin Senate. Located in central Wisconsin, the district comprises all of Waushara County, most of Winnebago County, western Outagamie County, southern Waupaca County, and part of eastern Adams County and southeast Portage County. The district also contains Lake Poygan and Hartman Creek State Park. Current elected officials Rachael Cabral-Guevara is the senator representing the 19th district since January 2023. She previously served in the State Assembly, representing the 55th Assembly district from 2021 to 2023. Each Wisconsin State Senate district is composed of three State Assembly districts. John Ringle
John Ringle (born Johann Ringle; October 2, 1848March 15, 1923) was an American businessman and Democratic politician from Wausau, Wisconsin. He was the 10th and 27th mayor of Wausau, and represented Marathon County for five years in the Wisconsin State Assembly and for four years in the Wisconsin Senate. His father, Bartholomew Ringle, was an early settler at Wausau and served as mayor, state representative, and several other county offices. John Ringle's son, Oscar Ringle, also served in the Assembly. Biography Ringle was born on October 2, 1848, in Herman, Dodge County, Wisconsin. His father, Bartholomew Ringle, had served in the Wisconsin legislature; and his son, Oscar Ringle, would later do so. This is a list of mayors of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, USA. Oshkosh was originally incorporated as a city in 1853 with a Mayor–council government, mayor-council form of government. Executive functions were transferred to a Council–manager government, city manager in 1956 and the office of mayor was abolished. The office of mayor was re-established in 1979 as a replacement for the city council president, elected by the city council, with additional ceremonial duties. The office of mayor was then modified again in 2004, to allow voters to directly elect the mayor and grant the mayor veto power over the city council. The city manager, however, remains the chief executive of the city.
