Andrew James Bridgen (born 28 October 1964) is a British former politician who served as Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament (MP) for North West Leicestershire (UK Parliament constituency), North West Leicestershire from 2010 until 2024. He was a member of the Conservative Party (UK), Conservative Party until his expulsion in April 2023, having had the Whip (politics)#United Kingdom, whip suspended in January after criticising the efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines and claiming that a Cardiology, cardiologist told him it constitutes "the biggest crime against humanity since the Holocaust". He joined the Reclaim Party in May 2023 but resigned from the party in December 2023. The Commons Select Committee on Standards is appointed by the House of Commons to oversee the work of the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards. History The committee was created on 13 December 2012 as one half of the replacements for the Committee on Standards and Privileges. Following the expenses scandal, it was considered desirable for lay members to provide oversight of standards of conduct of MPs, but it was not considered proper for individuals who were not members of parliament to make decisions on parliamentary privilege.
