Andreas Bössner
Andreas Bössner (born 19 August 1968) is an Austrian former motorcycle speedway rider. He earned 20 caps for the Austria national speedway team. Career In 1987, Bössner represented the Austria national speedway team during the 1987 Speedway World Team Cup. He continued to participate in multiple World Cups and would go on to ride for Austria 20 times in total. Bössner became a multiple Austrian national champion after winning the Austrian Individual Speedway Championship for three consecutive years. The wins came in 1991, 1992 and 1993. He made his British leagues debut during the 1994 British League Division Two season, where he rode for Exeter Falcons The Exeter Falcons were a Motorcycle speedway, speedway team based in the city of Exeter. The Exeter Falcons were a Motorcycle speedway, speedway team based in the city of Exeter. The Falcons operated from 1947 to 2005 at the County Ground Stadium in Exeter. History Origins & 1920s Speedway began at the County Ground in 1929, when the Southern Speedways Ltd, led by Mr Seward Glanfield agreed a ten-year contract with the Devon Athletic Ground Company. The first meeting was held on 9 March 1929 but despite a full season of racing (which included an Exeter team racing challenge matches) the company went into liquidation. 1930s A second promotion called County Speedways Ltd, ran the speedway in 1930 and 1931 but also went into liquidation. Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to . Austria National Speedway Team
The Austria national speedway team are one of the teams that compete in international team motorcycle speedway. History The Austrian speedway team competed in the inaugural Speedway World Team Cup in 1960, finishing third in the central European round. With the exception of a three year spell from 1967 to 1969, Austria were ever present in the World Team Cup from 1960 to 2000. However, they were one of the weaker nations and struggled to qualify for the latter stages of the competition. The team fared better in the Speedway World Pairs Championship, World Pairs Championship, reaching finals in 1971 Speedway World Pairs Championship, 1971 and 1975 Speedway World Pairs Championship, 1975. 1994 British League Division Two Season
The 1994 British League Division Two season was contested as the second division of Speedway in the United Kingdom. The British League Divisions 2 and 3 were disbanded after this season and did not return until 1997. An Academy League was introduced. Summary Rye House Rockets did not start the season because the promoters Roger Shute and Peter Redfern left the club leaving Ronnie Russell in sole charge. Russell failed to secure the necessary funding to continue and the Rockets were disbanded. The league title and knockout Cup was won by the Glasgow Tigers, who achieved the feat of recording the 'double double' (the league and cup double for two consecutive seasons).
