Andreas Aebi
Andreas Aebi (born 26 November 1958) is a Swiss politician who was the President of the National Council from 2020 to 2021. A member of the Swiss People's Party (SVP/UDC), he was first elected to the National Council in 2007. Aebi was First Vice President of the National Council for the 2019–2020 session under the presidency of Isabelle Moret. Biography Aebi was born in Burgdorf, in the Emmental region of the Canton of Bern. He is a farmer by profession and also works as an auctioneer. From 1999 to 2020, he was on the board of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Schweizerischer Rinderzüchter, the Association of Cattle Breeders. He led the association from 2014 to 2020. In 2018, he joined the board of directors of Lüthi & Portmann Fleischwaren AG, one of the largest meat processors in Switzerland. The Federal Council (german: Bundesrat; french: Conseil fédéral; it, Consiglio federale; rm, Cussegl federal) is the executive body of the federal government of the Swiss Confederation and serves as the collective head of state and government of Switzerland. It meets in the west wing of the Federal Palace in Bern. While the entire Federal Council is responsible for leading the federal administration of Switzerland, each Councillor heads one of the seven federal executive departments. The position of President of the Swiss Confederation rotates among the seven Councillors on a yearly basis, with one year's Vice President of Switzerland becoming the next year's President of Switzerland. Christian Josia Maria Dieter Imark commonly known as Christian Imark (born 29 January 1982) is a Swiss businessman and politician. He currently serves on the National Council (Switzerland) for the Swiss People's Party since 2015. In 2001, Imark was elected as the youngest member into the Cantonal Council of Solothurn, aged 19. He served until 2015 when he was elected into National Council. He also served as the youngest president of the Cantonal Council in its history in 2012. Thomas August Hurter (born 1 November 1963) is a Swiss politician and former commercial pilot. He currently serves as member of the National Council (Switzerland) for the Swiss People's Party since 2007. He also served on the Cantonal Council of Schaffhausen from 2005 to 2016. 2019 Swiss Federal Election
Federal elections were held in Switzerland on 20 October 2019 to elect all members of both houses of the Federal Assembly. This was followed by the 2019 election to the Swiss Federal Council, the federal executive, by the United Federal Assembly. In the 20 October elections, the two green parties, the Green Party of Switzerland and the Green Liberal Party of Switzerland, made major electoral gains, taking 13.2% and 7.8% of the vote respectively. As in the previous election, the Swiss People's Party received the most votes, but its share of votes went down to 25.6% from 29.4%. Initial media coverage interprets the 2019 election results as a "green wave" marking a leftward shift of the Swiss electorate on the political spectrum. Ueli Maurer
Ulrich "Ueli" Maurer (; born 1 December 1950) is a Swiss politician who has served as a Member of the Swiss Federal Council since 2009. A member of the Swiss People's Party (SVP/UDC), he was President of the Swiss Confederation in 2013 and 2019. Formerly head of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sports (2009–2015), Maurer has headed the Federal Department of Finance since 2016. Samuel Schmid (born 8 January 1947) is a Swiss politician who served as a Member of the Swiss Federal Council from 2000 to 2008. He was the head of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sports (notably acting as a defense minister for Switzerland). Schmid was born in Rüti bei Büren, Canton of Bern.
