Andrea Neumann (musician)
Andrea Neumann is a German performing musician and composer. Andrea Neumann plays the "indoor piano", a modified piano of her own design. Life Neumann studied piano at the Berlin University of the Arts. She has been a member of the Berlin improvisation scene since 1995. Since 2000, she has been a co-organizer and curator for the ''Labor Sonor'' series for experimental music, film and performance in Berlin. In 2008 she was a fellow at the Villa Aurora in Los Angeles. In 2008 she received an award from Prix Ars Electronica for the Video Performance of ''Videobrücke Berlin – Stockholm (5 Punkt 1)'' along with Sabine Ercklentz. Music Neumann plays on an "indoor piano" made for her by the piano maker Bernd Bittmann. Inspired by Zeena Parkins' prepared harp, she designed the indoor piano to consist of only the soundboard and the strings. George Brecht
George Brecht (August 27, 1926 – December 5, 2008), born George Ellis MacDiarmid, was an American conceptual artist and avant-garde composer, as well as a professional chemist who worked as a consultant for companies including Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, and Mobil Oil. He was a key member of, and influence on, Fluxus, the international group of avant-garde artists centred on George Maciunas, having been involved with the group from the first performances in Wiesbaden 1962 until Maciunas' death in 1978. One of the originators of participatory art, in which the artwork can only be experienced by the active involvement of the viewer, he is most famous for his ''Event Scores'' such as ''Drip Music 1962'', and is widely seen as an important precursor to conceptual art. Michael Thieke
Michael Thieke (1971 in Düsseldorf) is a German jazz clarinetist and alto saxophone player. Thieke moved to Berlin in 1993, where he studied at Berlin University of the Arts under Denney Goodhew, Kirk Nurock and Jerry Granelli. During the education, he appeared on the scene with the Swiss clarinet player Gregor Hotz and the band ''Billy Bang's'' ''Bobby''. In 1999, he founded the band ''Nickendes Perlgraas'' with Eric Schaefer and Michael Anderson. With this band, he gave numerous concerts and recorded two CDs. Sachiko Matsubara (Japanese: 松原 幸子; born 1973), better known by her stage name Sachiko M, is a Japanese musician. Her first solo album, ''Sine Wave Solo'', was released in 1999. Sven-Åke Johansson (born 1943 in Mariestad) is a Swedish composer, drummer, poet, author and visual artist associated with European free jazz and free improvisation, who has lived in Berlin since 1968. Johansson is one of the first European free jazz drummers: he was part of the Peter Brötzmann trio that recorded ''For Adolphe Sax'' (1967) and '' Machine Gun'' (1968), alongside bassist Peter Kowald. In music, a glissando (; plural: ''glissandi'', abbreviated ''gliss.'') is a glide from one pitch to another (). It is an Italianized musical term derived from the French ''glisser'', "to glide". In some contexts, it is distinguished from the continuous portamento. Axel Dörner
Axel Dörner (born 26 April 1964 in Cologne, Germany) is a German trumpeter, pianist, and composer. Biography Dörner studied piano in the Dutch town Arnhem (1988–89) and at the Music Academy in Cologne (1989–1996). From 1991 he studied trumpet with Malte Burba, and during his studies he collaborated with trumpeter Bruno Light as the Street Fighters Duo. The duo expanded to form the Street Fighters Quartet and the Street Fighters Double Quartet, with members including Matthias Schubert, Bruno Leicht, and Claudio Puntin. Burkhard Beins (born 1964 in Lower Saxony, West Germany) is a German composer/performer who works with percussion, selected objects and electronics. Living in Berlin since 1995, Beins is active in experimental music and electroacoustic improvisation. Since the late 1980s he has appeared on international festivals, concerts and tours throughout Europe and overseas.
