Andrea Carla Michaels ( Eisenberg; born 1959) is an American crossword puzzle constructor and corporate naming consultant. She worked as a comedian and television writer after graduating from Harvard University in 1980, has played competitive chess and Scrabble, and appeared on ''Jeopardy!'' and '' Wheel of Fortune''. More than 85 crosswords by her have been published in ''The New York Times'' since 2000. In San Francisco, she has become known as the "Pizza Lady" for her efforts to feed homeless people in her community. Early life and education Michaels grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the youngest of three daughters of Carol () and M. Michael Eisenberg, a surgeon at the University of Minnesota. American Crossword Puzzle Tournament
The American Crossword Puzzle Tournament (ACPT) is a crossword-solving tournament held annually in February, March, or April. Founded in 1978 by Will Shortz, who still directs the tournament, it is the oldest and largest crossword tournament held in the United States; the 2023 event set an attendance record with more than 750 competitors. For its first 30 years the contest was held at the Marriott in Stamford, Connecticut, but owing to increasing popularity, in 2008 it moved to the larger Marriott Brooklyn Bridge in Brooklyn, New York. In 2015, the tournament returned to Stamford. The tournament traditionally begins Friday evening with social games and a wine-and-cheese reception. ''The Dating Game'' is an American television game show that first aired on December 20, 1965, and was the first of many shows created and packaged by Chuck Barris from the 1960s through the 1980s. It was hosted by Tom Kennedy, with Jamie Farr substituting for Kennedy for one week of shows, and announced by Charlie O'Donnell. The show was produced by Scotti Bros.-Syd Vinnedge Television in association with Fiedler/Berlin Productions and Rick Ambrose Television. The show features three celebrities offering definitions of vocabulary words to contestants, who then determine which celebrity is giving the correct definition. Random House is an imprint and publishing group of Penguin Random House.
