Andher Nagari
''Andher Nagri'' is a play written by Indian Hindi writer Bhartendu Harishchandra in 1881. In this 6-act play, with satire, he has shown a king destroyed by his own deeds by an irrational and autocratic government system. Bhartendu composed it in a single day for the Hindu National Theater in Banaras. Story This play is divided into 6 acts. In the first act, the Mahanta appears with two of his disciples who send their disciples Govardhan Das and Narayan Das to beg for alms in a nearby town. He warns Govardhan Das about the bad consequences of greed. The second act, has a view of the city market where everything is being sold. Govardhan Das is delighted to see this infidelity in the market and returns to his guru with three and a half sers of sweets for seven paise. In the third act, the two disciples return to the Mahant. Bhartendu Harishchandra
Bharatendu Harishchandra (9 September 18506 January 1885) was an Indian poet, writer and playwright. He authored several dramas, life sketches and travel accounts, using new media such as reports, publications, letters to editors of publications, translations, and literary works to shape public opinion. He has been hailed as a '' Yug Charan'' for his writings depicting the exploitative nature of the British Raj. Writing under the pen name "Rasa", Harishchandra picked themes that demonstrated the agonies of the people. For instance, the country's poverty, dependency, inhuman exploitation, the unrest of the middle class and the urgent need for progression of the country. Referred as a fearless journalist, Harishchandra refuted the prevailing orthodoxy of the time and revealed the machination of the mahants, pandas and priests. Bania (caste)
__NOTOC__ The Bania (also spelled Baniya, Banija, Banya, Vaniya, Vani, Vania and Vanya) is a Vaishya community mainly found in Indian states of Gujarat, and Rajasthan, but they are also found in Madhya Pradesh. ''Satya Harischandra'' is a 1965 Indian Kannada epic film directed by Hunsur Krishnamurthy and produced by K. V. Reddy. It stars Dr. Rajkumar in the lead role, as Harishchandra, an Indian mythological king, who was renowned for upholding truth and justice under any circumstance. The film is based on poet Raghavanka's work, ''Harishchandra Kavya''. The supporting cast features Udaykumar, Pandari Bai, Narasimharaju (Kannada actor), Narasimharaju, M. P. Shankar, K. S. Ashwath and Kutty Padmini, Baby Padmini. This was the second Kannada movie based on king Harishchandra, the first one being the 1943 movie ''Satya Harishchandra (1943 film), Satya Harishchandra''. K.
