Andal (singer)
''Andal'' (19 June 1939 – 2 July 2016) was an Indian playback singer who sang mainly in Tamil-language. Childhood Born at Alwarthirunagiri in Tuticorin District, Tiruchendur taluk of Tamil Nadu in 1939. Her father was Azhagiyasingham Iyengar. Her father was a well-to-do person and a lover of music. He had a gramophone and many records (discs) at home. While he plays the records, Andal will listen to the songs intently and acquired the talent of singing exactly the same way. Noticing her interest, her father sent her to a music teacher in the village. She learned many Kritis from him. Later, she was trained by N. C. Vasanthakokilam in Chennai until the early death of Vasanthakokilam. Playback singer Andal began her career as a playback singer singing for stage plays. Alwarthirunagiri is a panchayat town in Thoothukudi district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It is next to Srivaikuntam on the Tirunelveli - Tiruchendur Highway, Tamil Nadu, southern India. Tuticorin District
Thoothukudi District is one of the 38 districts of Tamil Nadu state in southern India. The district was formed by bifurcation of Tirunelveli district on 20 October 1986. Komal Swaminathan
Komal Swaminathan (born 27 January 1935 in Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu, India, died 1995) was a congressional activist in his early years, a Tamil theater personality, film director and journalist. Early life Swaminathan joined the school of S. V. Sahasranamam and learned the art of playwriting and stage techniques. In 1971, he formed Stage Friends. Career He was a dramatist on the Tamil stage, his ''Thanneer Thanneer'' in 1980 brought him to the limelight. He scripted, directed and staged this play with his drama troupe "Stage Friends", this play was staged more than 250 times. This play, ''Thanneer Thanneer'' (Water Water) highlighted the acute water shortage in rural areas due to bureaucracy and the apathetic attitude of politicians and bureaucrats, and was later filmed under the same name by K. ''Ponvayal'' () is a 1954 Indian Tamil-language film written and directed by A. T. Krishnaswamy, and produced by T. R. Ramachandran. It is based on the story ''Poimaan Karadu'' by Kalki Krishnamurthy that was serialised in the weekly magazine '' Kalki''. The film stars T. R. Ramachandran and Anjali Devi. It was released on 12 February 1954 and failed commercially. The film is lost. Plot Sengodan owns 10 acres of land, known as "Ponvayal" (Golden Farm). It is rumoured that fortune in gold is buried in Ponvayal. Sengodan loves his cousin Semba. Esraj, a counterfeiter, plans to obtain at the fortune. He seeks the help of a graduate Bangaru and his lover. Unknown to Esraj, a policeman and an actress work against him and the crafty couple succeed in foiling the plans of Esraj. ''Kudumba Vilakku'' () is a 1956 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by F. Nagoor. The film stars P. V. Narasimha Bharathi and Jamuna. Plot Radha is the wife of Kanagasabai, a Zamindar. The couple have no children. Kanagasabai brings in another woman, Pushpa, as his second wife with Radha's consent. In the meantime, Radha gets pregnant. Pushpa and her uncle Appasami try to abort the baby, but Radha safely delivers a boy. While Radha is in a delirious state, Pushpa and Appasami hand over the baby to a servant, Gopal and order him to kill it. But Gopal takes it to the next village and dumps the baby in a garbage bin. Vamanan
Vamanan is an Indian writer, journalist, documentary film-maker and film music historian based in Chennai. He is known for his documentation of the lives of Tamil film music composers, singing stars and playback singers. Vamanan was awarded the Tamil Nadu government's Kalaimamani award (2005) by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for his contribution to Tamil film history and won the first prize of the Government of Tamil Nadu Tamil development department for the first volume of ''Thirai Isai Alaigal'' (2000).
