Ancaster High School
Ancaster High School is a member of the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board. The school's enrollment for 2014 was 3923, with Korean, Urdu, Mandarin, Russian, Spanish, and Arabic being the languages of note spoken by students along with English. The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) assesses Grade 10 students' skills in reading and writing. Successful completion of the test is one of 32 requirements students need to attain to receive an Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Ancaster is a community in the city of Hamilton, Ontario, Hamilton in the Canadian province of Ontario. Founded in 1792, it immediately developed itself into one of the first significant and influential early Kingdom of Great Britain, British Upper Canada communities established during the late 18th century, eventually amalgamating with the city of Hamilton in 2001. By 1823, due to its accessible waterpower and location at the juncture of prehistoric trading routes, Ancaster had become Upper Canada's largest industrial and commercial centre. The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), more commonly known as the International Baccalaureate (IB), is a nonprofit foundation headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, and founded in 1968. Jana Prikryl
Jana Prikryl, born in Ostrava, Czechoslovakia in 1975, is a poet, critic and editor. In 2020, she was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship. Early life and education Jana Prikryl was born in Ostrava, now in the Czech Republic. Aged five, in 1980, her parents took her and her elder brother on a 'holiday' to the Dalmatian coast of the then Yugoslavia, but diverted to Zagreb, obtained four-day tourist visas to Austria with passports valid only for travel to Yugoslavia, and, after some time in Austria, moved to Canada when Jana was six. The family settled in Hamilton, Ontario, where Prikryl attended Ancaster High School. Prikryl learned Czech, then German, with English as her third language after her family moved to Canada. She now considers English to be her first language, and still speaks Czech. She graduated with a BA in English from the University of Toronto. Marcia MacMillan is a Canadian news anchor for CTV News Channel broadcasting the weekday evening news. She started working for CTV News in November 2005. MacMillan started her broadcasting career as a reporter for MCTV in Sudbury, Ontario then for MCTV in North Bay, Ontario. She then moved on to CKWS in Kingston, Ontario. She also reported for The Weather Network, CHCH-TV and Toronto 1. Marv Allemang
Marv Allemang (born 3 December 1953) is a former professional Canadian football offensive lineman and defensive lineman who played 14 seasons in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He most notably played center for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Ottawa Rough Riders later in his career. Allemang played for Acadia University and was nominated for the J. P. Metras Trophy for outstanding intercollegiate lineman in 1974. He played for the Rough Riders from 1975 to 1976. After winning the 64th Grey Cup with the Rough Riders, Allemang spent one season with the Tiger-Cats. From 1979 to 1981, he played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers before returning to Hamilton from 1982 to 1986. The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB), formerly known as English-language Public District School Board No. 21 prior to 1999, is the public school board for the city of Hamilton. Established on January 1, 1998, via the amalgamation of the Hamilton and Wentworth County school boards, the board currently operates 93 elementary and secondary schools.
