Anastasia Slutskaya
''Anastasia Slutskaya'' ( be, Анастасія Слуцкая), also known as ''Princess Slutskaya'', is a 2003 historical drama film by Belarusfilm Production Company. Plot The action takes place in the early 16th century. The Tatars attacked the prosperous Belarusian lands located at the intersection of trade routes, which were part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The Crimean Tatar cavalry raided all Belarusian cities without exception. The aggressors stormed fortresses, robbed and enslaved the locals leaving behind only ashes. However, the Tatars have to face the army squad and brave residents of Slutsk, who have not been defeated yet. The defenders are led by Princess Anastasia Slutskaya after the death of her husband, Prince Semen Olelkovich (1505). Belarusfilm ( be, Беларусьфільм) is the main film studio of Belarus. History Belarusfilm, under the name ''Belgoskino'' was founded in 1924. In 1928, the ''Soviet Belarus'' studio (''Савецкая Беларусь'') was founded in Leningrad. The studio was moved to Minsk in 1939. Film production was interrupted by World War II, and restarted in 1946, when the studio assumed its current name. In Soviet times, the studio was dubbed ''Partizanfilm'', due to the large output of films portraying the Soviet partisan's struggle against Nazi occupation. The studio was, however, also renowned for its children's films. The studio has to date made 131 animated films. Princess Anastasia Slutskaya
Anastasia Slutskaya (born Anastasia Ivanovna; late 1400s – circa 1526) was a Belarusian noblewoman. She was the regent of the Principality of Slutsk during the minority of Yury (Prince of Slutsk) in 1503-1512. Biography She was the daughter of Ivan Yurievich, Prince of Mstislavl, from his first marriage with Ulyana. In the early 1490s, Anastasia married Semion Mikhailovich Slutsky, Prince of Slutsk and Kopyl, who died in 1503. Since their son, Yuri, was still too young, Anastasia became the ruler of the principality. At the time, the Tatars often attacked the principality. Prince Semion had to repel multiple attacks. After his death, Princess Anastasia led the troops to fight the invaders. She managed to protect the Principality of Slutsk from 1505 to 1508, although the land was devastated after the raids. The House of Olelkovich ( be, Алелькавічы, lt, Olelkaičiai, pl, Olelkowicze, uk, Олельковичі) was a 15th–16th-century princely family from the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Their main possession was the Duchy of Slutsk–Kapyl. They are sometimes known as Slutskys. They were descended from the Lithuanian Gediminids (male line) and Ruthenian Rurikids (female line). According to the 1528 military census, the family was the fourth wealthiest magnate family in the Grand Duchy. However, its influence declined after the Union of Lublin (1569). The last member of the family was Sophia Olelkovich Radziwill (1585–1612), wife of Janusz Radziwiłł. She was elevated to sainthood in the Eastern Orthodox Church in 1983.
