Anass Essayi
Anass Essayi (Arabic: أنس الساعي; born 18 May 2001) is a Moroccan athlete who specializes in the 1,500 meters event. Essayi won the silver medal in the 1,500 meters at the 2018 All-Africa Youth Games in Algiers as well as the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires. He later won the bronze medal in the 1,500 meters at the 2021 Pan Arab Athletics Championships in Rades. Essayi represented Morocco at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where he competed in the men's 1,500 m. He was studying Business Administration at Al Akhawayn University in August 2021 and in 2022 is a student at University of South Carolina. 1500 Metres
The 1500 metres or 1500-metre run is the foremost middle distance track event in athletics. The distance has been contested at the Summer Olympics since 1896 and the World Championships in Athletics since 1983. It is equivalent to 1.5 kilometers or approximately miles. The event is closely associated with its slightly longer variant, the mile run, from which it derives its nickname "the metric mile". The demands of the race are similar to that of the 800 metre run, but with a slightly higher emphasis on aerobic endurance and a slightly lower sprint speed requirement. The 1500-metre run is predominantly aerobic, but anaerobic conditioning is also required. Al Akhawayn University (, Berber: ''Tasdawit En Wawmaten'') is an independent, public, not-for-profit, coeducational university in Ifrane, Morocco, from the imperial city of Fez, in the Middle Atlas Mountains. Athletics At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Qualification
For the athletics at the 2020 Summer Olympics competitions, the following qualification systems were in place. Qualification ended on 29 June 2021, but for marathon and 50 km race walking, it ended on 31 May 2021. Some 1900 athletes, from 196 countries, competed. 103 countries qualified also through Universality places (initially 101, 61 men and 40 women). Qualifying standards A National Olympic Committee (NOC) may enter up to 3 qualified athletes in each individual event if all athletes meet the entry standard during the qualifying period. An NOC may also enter a maximum of 1 qualified relay team per event. Under the universality rule, NOCs may enter one male athlete and one female athlete, regardless of time, if they have no athletes of that gender meeting the entry standard.
