Ana Noovao
Ana Noovao was an international netball player who captained the New Zealand team. She has since coached netball, including the Cook Islands national team. Early life Ana Noovao Teinaki was born in New Zealand on 6 January 1968. She is of Cook Islands descent. Her brother is Meti Noovao, a former rugby league footballer who played for several clubs in New Zealand and, internationally, for the Cook Islands. Netball playing career Playing for the College Rifles club in Auckland, Noovao was selected for the New Zealand Young International team, which toured Canada in 1986. In 1987, she joined the Under-21 team and played in the Netball World Youth Cup in Canberra, Australia in 1998. On 26 April 1989 she played her first game for the ''Silver Ferns'', the New Zealand national netball team and in 1990 was appointed vice-captain. Netball is a ball sport played on a court by two teams of seven players. It is among a rare number of sports which have been created exclusively for female competitors. The sport is played on indoor and outdoor netball courts and is specifically played in schools. Netball is most popularly played in Commonwealth nations. A common misunderstanding of the sport's origins has resulted in the mistaken belief that netball was created to prevent women from playing basketball. However, the sport is the result of Clara Baer's misinterpretation of its rules. Waimarama Taumaunu
Waimarama Taumaunu (born 18 October 1962), often known as Wai Taumaunu, is a New Zealand netball coach and former international netball player. Biography Taumaunu was born in Waipawa, New Zealand. She was a member of New Zealand's national netball team, the Silver Ferns, from 1981 to 1991. During that time, she played in the team that won the 1987 Netball World Championships, and was also captain of the team in the last three years of her international career. In 1998, Taumaunu was appointed as national performance director for All England Netball, and remained in that role until 2003. During that time she was also the assistant coach for the England national team in their 2003 Netball World Championships campaign. In 2007, Taumaunu was the head coach of the Capital Shakers in the National Bank Cup.
